Documents You Need to Apply for a Credit Card in India
Updated 7 June 2026
Having the right documents ready before you apply, rather than scrambling after a request, shortens processing time and avoids a stalled application.
Identity, address, and photo
PAN card (mandatory for any credit card in India), a government-issued photo ID/address proof (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, or driving licence), and a recent passport-size photograph are near-universal requirements regardless of issuer or card tier.
Income proof — the part that differs by employment type
Salaried applicants typically need recent payslips (often the last 2–3 months) and Form 16 or a salary bank statement. Self-employed applicants typically need ITR for the last one to two years and business bank statements — see our guide on self-employed applications for more detail.
Having it ready in advance
Keep digital copies of all of the above on hand before you start an application — most issuer apps and websites accept uploads directly, and a complete application on the first attempt processes noticeably faster than one that needs a follow-up document request.
