Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card Review 2026: Zero Forex, Zero Fee

The Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card is one of the easiest travel cards to recommend in 2026: it's lifetime free, charges zero forex markup, and pays up to 20% back in Scapia Coins on travel booked through the Scapia app. The catch is the lounge access, which only switches on in billing cycles where you spend ₹20,000 or more. If you book travel through Scapia and travel abroad even once a year, it's worth holding.

Who this card is for

Scapia started on Federal Bank and built a following among younger travellers who wanted a free, no-forex card. This version, launched in September 2026, moves the same idea onto Axis Bank, with Mastercard and RuPay variants. It suits:

  • International travellers who want to stop paying 3.5% markup on every foreign spend
  • People who already book flights and hotels through apps and don't mind using Scapia's
  • Domestic flyers who can put ₹20,000 a month on one card for lounge access
  • Anyone who wants a free second card for travel next to a cashback card

It's a weak primary card if most of your spending is everyday domestic shopping, where it earns only 1%.

How the rewards work

The headline is up to 20% back on eligible flight and hotel bookings made in the Scapia app. Everything else earns 1%, except UPI or RuPay "Scan & Pay" spends of ₹500 or more, which earn 5%.

There's an important detail here. The rewards are Scapia Coins, not rupees, and the value of a coin decides what that 20% is really worth. On the Federal Bank Scapia card, BestCard's data values 5 Coins at ₹1, which turns the 20% headline into about 4% in real value. Our data doesn't list a separate coin value for the Axis version, so check the current value in the Scapia app before you plan around the headline rate.

Worked example: ₹25,000 a month

  • ₹8,000 on travel booked in the Scapia app
  • ₹5,000 on UPI Scan & Pay (₹500+ transactions)
  • ₹12,000 on other spends

At the headline rates:

  • ₹8,000 × 20% = ₹1,600
  • ₹5,000 × 5% = ₹250
  • ₹12,000 × 1% = ₹120
  • Total: ₹1,970 a month

If Coins are worth a fifth of face value, as on the Federal Bank version:

  • About ₹394 a month, or roughly ₹4,700 a year

Either way it costs nothing to hold. And at ₹25,000 a month you clear the ₹20,000 lounge threshold every cycle.

Worked example: an international trip

You spend ₹1,50,000 abroad. On a typical card with a 3.5% markup, that's ₹5,250 in markup plus ₹945 GST, or ₹6,195. Scapia Axis charges no markup and so no GST on it. Saving ₹6,195 on one trip is worth more than a year of base-rate rewards on most mid-tier cards. Before you fly, make sure you don't accidentally accept dynamic currency conversion at the terminal, which adds back the cost you're trying to avoid; see our DCC explainer.

Lounge access: the ₹20,000 rule

You get unlimited domestic lounge visits, but only in billing cycles where your card spend reaches ₹20,000. Miss it in one cycle and the benefit pauses until you clear it again.

That's generous if you hit the threshold, since "unlimited" beats the 4 or 8 visits a year on most free cards. It's frustrating if your spending is lumpy. Plan to put regular bills on the card in the month before a trip so you don't arrive at the lounge with access switched off. There's no international lounge access listed.

Other benefits

  • Up to ₹2,000 back in Scapia Coins on eligible airport shopping and duty-free purchases
  • RuPay variant works for UPI payments, which is where the 5% Scan & Pay rate applies
  • No cap on the zero-forex waiver

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Lifetime free, so no break-even math
  • Zero forex markup with no cap
  • Strong travel rewards inside the Scapia app
  • Unlimited domestic lounge access at a fairly low monthly spend
  • 5% on UPI Scan & Pay transactions of ₹500 or more

Cons

  • Lounge access must be re-earned every billing cycle
  • Coins work best inside the Scapia app; check their real rupee value
  • 1% base rate on other spends is ordinary
  • Overlaps heavily with the Federal Bank Scapia card

Eligibility

BestCard's data doesn't list a minimum income for this card. Axis Bank will assess your credit score, income and existing credit. If you already have an Axis relationship, approval is usually smoother.

How it compares with alternatives

Federal Bank Scapia Credit Card: also lifetime free and zero forex, with 4% effective travel value and unlimited domestic lounge access on just ₹5,000 monthly spend. If you already hold it, the Axis card adds little. Our Federal Bank Scapia review covers it.

Scapia Plus Card: ₹1,499 annual fee (waived on ₹3 lakh spend), 15% travel rate, 3% base, plus some international lounge visits and travel insurance. Better if you spend heavily and want more than domestic lounges. It needs ₹60,000 monthly income.

AU ixigo Credit Card: another free zero-forex card, built around the ixigo app, with quarterly domestic lounge visits on ₹50,000 prior-quarter spend and one Priority Pass visit a year. Read our AU ixigo review, or see Scapia vs Niyo Global for another zero-forex matchup.

Verdict

The Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card costs nothing, removes forex markup entirely, and pays well on travel booked through Scapia. The coin valuation and the monthly lounge threshold are real limitations, but neither costs you money. For most travellers it's a strong second card next to a good domestic cashback card.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card lifetime free?

Yes. BestCard's data lists no joining fee and no annual fee, so there's no cost to holding it.

How does lounge access work on the Scapia Axis Bank card?

Unlimited domestic lounge access is unlocked in any billing cycle where your card spend reaches ₹20,000. If you spend less in a cycle, the benefit pauses until you clear the threshold again.

What is the forex markup on the Scapia Axis Bank card?

Zero. There's no markup on international transactions, online or in person, and no cap on the waiver.

Should I get Scapia Axis if I already have the Federal Bank Scapia card?

Probably not. The two cards overlap heavily, and both earn Scapia Coins on the same app. Check whether you'd actually gain anything, such as the different lounge rules, before taking a second card.
