Best Credit Cards for Hotel Bookings in India

Booking a hotel with the right card can save you more than booking flights with it — hotel portals run steeper, more frequent discounts than airline sites do, and several Indian card issuers have direct tie-ups that stack on top of the usual reward rate. Most people just use whatever card is in their wallet and miss this entirely.

Issuer travel portals vs third-party sites

The biggest lever isn't the card's base reward rate — it's where you book. HDFC's SmartBuy, Axis's EDGE Miles/Travel Edge, and SBI Card's own travel portal all periodically run 10-20% instant discounts on hotel bookings that don't require any point redemption, just the right card paying through their portal. These change often and aren't always advertised well, so check the portal before you book rather than assuming your card's standard reward rate is the best you'll get.

The catch: portal bookings sometimes come with stricter cancellation terms than booking directly with the hotel or through MakeMyTrip. For a non-refundable weekend booking that's fine; for anything you might need to change, read the cancellation policy before you save the 15%.

MakeMyTrip and Booking.com tie-ups

Several premium cards have standing partnerships that go beyond a generic discount. Tata Neu Infinity Credit Card earns NeuCoins on hotel bookings made through the Tata Neu app itself, which covers Tata-affiliated hotel brands and a broader inventory through its travel partners — useful if you're already in that ecosystem, less useful if you exclusively book through MakeMyTrip or Booking.com.

For MakeMyTrip specifically, co-branded cards and select bank tie-ups offer MyCash or direct discount vouchers on hotel bookings above a threshold — these tend to be seasonal promotions rather than permanent card benefits, so they're worth checking at booking time rather than relying on for every trip. Booking.com doesn't have the same depth of Indian card tie-ups, so for that platform your card's standard reward rate (cashback or points) is usually what you're actually getting, not a special discount.

What actually matters more than the discount

For frequent hotel bookers, the accelerated reward rate on travel spend matters more over a year than any single portal discount. SBI Card and other issuers offer specific travel category cards with 4-5x point multipliers on hotel and flight spend — if you book hotels often, that compounding beats chasing occasional 15% portal sales. Run the math on your actual annual hotel spend before picking a card for this reason alone.

Also worth checking: whether the card gives you milestone benefits tied to travel spend, since some cards throw in a bonus voucher or extra reward tranche once you cross an annual spend threshold that regular hotel bookings would hit anyway.

Where to go from here

If lounge access matters as much as hotel discounts on your trips, our guide on best travel credit cards for lounge access covers that side. And before committing to any card for travel benefits specifically, use our guide to comparing credit cards to weigh the annual fee against how often you'll actually use the hotel booking perks.
