HSBC TravelOne vs Axis Atlas: Which Mid-Tier Travel Card Wins?

Mid-tier travel cards are where most serious travel-reward optimization actually happens in India — the invitation-only flagships get the headlines, but Axis Atlas and its newer challenger, HSBC TravelOne, are what most frequent flyers can actually apply for and use well.

Fees and accessibility

Both cards sit in a similar mid-premium fee bracket, well below Infinia or Amex Platinum Reserve and above entry-level travel cards. Axis Atlas is openly applied for with a straightforward eligibility process, and HSBC TravelOne follows the same accessible model rather than gating the card behind an existing relationship. Neither card requires the kind of banking history HDFC expects for Infinia.

Reward rate and earning structure

Axis Atlas earns EDGE Miles with accelerated rates on bookings through Axis's Travel EDGE portal, a structure that rewards planning your bookings through the bank's own channel. HSBC TravelOne runs a comparable flat-plus-accelerated structure on its own travel portal. Neither card has a dramatically higher base rate than the other; the difference shows up more in redemption than in earning.

Where Atlas pulls ahead: transfer partners

This is the clearest differentiator. Axis Atlas transfers miles to 20+ airline and hotel loyalty programs, a partner list built up over years of Axis actively expanding its travel rewards ecosystem. HSBC TravelOne's partner list is shorter. If you fly a specific airline loyally, both cards can work equally well as long as that airline is on the list — but if your flights vary by route and price, Atlas's broader network gives you more flexibility to actually use the miles you earn.

Lounge access

Both cards offer tiered or spend-gated lounge access rather than unlimited visits, matching the industry-wide shift away from uncapped lounge programs. Atlas's lounge tiers scale with annual spend, rewarding heavier spenders with more visits over the year — a structure that suits someone who can predict and control their annual card spend.

Which one to pick

Choose Axis Atlas if transfer flexibility matters to you or if you're already inclined toward Axis's broader travel ecosystem, including its Travel EDGE portal and Magnus upgrade path for heavier spenders later. Choose HSBC TravelOne if you already bank with HSBC and prefer consolidating your travel card with your existing banking relationship, or if you fly primarily on the specific airlines HSBC does support.
