SBI Elite vs Axis Select 2026: Which Mid-Premium Card Fits You?

Several SBI credit cards laid out on a desk

SBI Elite and Axis Select sit in the same tier: a few thousand rupees a year for lounge access, a welcome benefit and better-than-entry rewards. Axis Select is the better choice for most people spending under ₹8 lakh a year, because it costs less and earns a flat rate on most spending. SBI Elite makes more sense if a large share of your spending is dining and groceries, if you'll cross ₹10 lakh a year, or if you spend in foreign currency, where its 2% markup beats Axis's 3.5%.

All figures reflect BestCard's latest card data. Axis changed Select's lounge rules in August and October 2026, so check SBI Card's and Axis Bank's current terms before applying.

How the rewards actually work

SBI Elite

SBI Elite earns about 2.5% on dining, groceries and department-store spend, with points worth ₹0.25 each. The accelerated points are capped at 10,000 a month, worth ₹2,500, which you reach at roughly ₹1 lakh of spend in those categories. Everything else earns just 0.5%, which is low. You also get buy-one-get-one movie tickets on BookMyShow and milestone benefits for consistent yearly spending.

Axis Select

Axis Select has no bonus categories. BestCard's data lists a flat 2% on the first ₹20,000 of spend each month and 1% after that. Fuel, utilities, insurance, education and government payments earn nothing. Crossing ₹3 lakh of annual spend adds 5,000 EDGE Reward Points (about ₹1,000) and doubles your international lounge visits and golf rounds. You also get ₹200 off Swiggy food orders twice a month and occasional BigBasket discounts.

Worked example 1: ₹40,000 a month

Split: ₹6,000 dining, ₹8,000 groceries, ₹26,000 other eligible spends. Annual spend: ₹4.8 lakh.

SBI Elite

  • Dining and groceries: 2.5% × ₹14,000 = ₹350
  • Other: 0.5% × ₹26,000 = ₹130
  • ₹480 a month, ₹5,760 a year
  • Fee not waived: minus ₹4,999
  • Net: ₹761 a year, plus a ₹5,000 voucher in year one

Axis Select

  • First ₹20,000: 2% = ₹400
  • Next ₹20,000: 1% = ₹200
  • ₹600 a month, ₹7,200 a year
  • Milestone at ₹3 lakh: about ₹1,000
  • Fee not waived: minus ₹3,000
  • Net: about ₹5,200 a year, plus about ₹2,000 of welcome points in year one

Axis Select wins by about ₹4,400 a year from the second year. Swiggy discounts would add to that if you use them.

Axis Bank credit cards fanned out on a table

Worked example 2: ₹90,000 a month

Split: ₹15,000 dining, ₹20,000 groceries, ₹55,000 other. Annual spend: ₹10.8 lakh.

SBI Elite

  • Dining and groceries: 2.5% × ₹35,000 = ₹875, under the cap
  • Other: 0.5% × ₹55,000 = ₹275
  • Total: ₹1,150 a month, ₹13,800 a year, fee waived

Axis Select

  • First ₹20,000: 2% = ₹400
  • Next ₹70,000: 1% = ₹700
  • ₹1,100 a month, ₹13,200 a year
  • Milestone: about ₹1,000
  • Total: about ₹14,200 a year, fee waived

At this spend the two are within a few hundred rupees. SBI Elite pulls ahead if your dining and grocery share is higher than this, and its lower forex markup helps if you travel.

Lounge access and travel

SBI Elite's lounge access is simpler: 8 domestic and 6 international visits a year, with no spend condition in our data. International visits are through Priority Pass, up to 2 a quarter, and cost $27 plus tax each after that.

Axis Select gives 6 international visits through Priority Pass, rising to 12 once you cross ₹3 lakh a year. From 1 October 2026, spends on insurance, rent, fuel, education, utilities, wallets, gold and gift cards no longer count towards that ₹3 lakh. Its 2 domestic visits a quarter need ₹50,000 of spend in the previous 3 months and, since 28 August 2026, use the Select card itself rather than Priority Pass. Our explainer on lounge spend thresholds covers how these conditions work.

For foreign spending, SBI Elite's 2% markup saves ₹1,500 per ₹1 lakh compared with Axis Select's 3.5%.

Redemption

Both cards pay in points with a ₹99 fee per redemption request, so it pays to redeem in larger batches. SBI Elite points are worth ₹0.25 each; Axis EDGE Reward Points are worth about ₹0.20 based on the welcome bonus valuation. See how to calculate the real value of reward points before comparing headline rates.

Fees and waivers

Axis Select is cheaper at ₹3,000 a year and easier to waive at ₹8 lakh. SBI Elite costs ₹4,999 and needs ₹10 lakh. In year one, SBI Elite's ₹5,000 voucher covers its joining fee, while Axis Select's welcome points cover about two-thirds of its fee. SBI Elite asks for ₹60,000 a month of income; BestCard's data does not list Axis Select's income requirement, so check with Axis.

Who should pick which

Choose SBI Elite if:

  • Dining and groceries are a large share of your spending
  • You will spend ₹10 lakh or more a year
  • You spend in foreign currency

Choose Axis Select if:

  • You spend ₹3 lakh to ₹8 lakh a year across mixed categories
  • You want a lower fee and an easier waiver
  • You play golf or order on Swiggy often
  • You mostly need international lounge access

Verdict

For most moderate spenders, Axis Select gives more back for a lower fee. SBI Elite is the better choice for heavy diners and grocery shoppers who will cross ₹10 lakh a year, travel abroad, and want simpler lounge access.
