ICICI Sapphiro vs Axis Select 2026: Which Mid-Premium Card Wins?
20 September 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

ICICI Sapphiro and Axis Select are both mid-premium lifestyle cards where the perks matter more than the reward rate. Sapphiro wins for higher spenders: its milestone points add up quickly above ₹4 lakh a year, it gives 16 domestic lounge visits a year if you meet the spend gate, and its welcome vouchers are worth over ₹13,000. Axis Select wins for moderate spenders who travel abroad: it's cheaper, and it gives up to 12 international lounge visits a year against Sapphiro's 2. Neither earns much on everyday spend.

A note on Axis Select's reward rate: BestCard's data lists it as 2 EDGE points per ₹100. At the dataset's point value of 20 paise (the welcome 10,000 points are valued at about ₹2,000), that's about 0.4% back on the first ₹20,000 a month and 0.2% beyond, unless you get more from transferring points to partners.
Rewards maths
At ₹40,000 a month (₹4.8 lakh a year)
ICICI Sapphiro
- 0.5% × ₹4,80,000 = ₹2,400
- Milestone: 4,000 points at ₹4 lakh = ₹1,000
- Total: ₹3,400 a year. The ₹3,500 fee isn't waived (you're below ₹6 lakh), so with GST (₹4,130) you're slightly behind on rewards alone.
Axis Select
- First ₹20,000 a month at 2 points per ₹100 = 400 points; next ₹20,000 at 1 point per ₹100 = 200 points. That's 600 points a month, 7,200 a year = ₹1,440
- Milestone: 5,000 points at ₹3 lakh = ₹1,000
- Total: ₹2,440 a year. The ₹3,000 fee isn't waived (below ₹8 lakh), so with GST (₹3,540) you're about ₹1,100 behind on rewards.
At this spend, neither card pays for itself through rewards. The decision rests on lounges and golf.
At ₹75,000 a month (₹9 lakh a year)
ICICI Sapphiro
- 0.5% × ₹9,00,000 = ₹4,500
- Milestones: 4,000 points at ₹4 lakh, plus 2,000 points for each extra ₹1 lakh up to ₹9 lakh (5 × 2,000 = 10,000). Total 14,000 points = ₹3,500
- Total: ₹8,000 a year, and the fee is waived.
Axis Select
- 400 points on the first ₹20,000 plus 550 points on the next ₹55,000 = 950 points a month, 11,400 a year = ₹2,280
- Milestone: ₹1,000
- Total: ₹3,280 a year, and the fee is waived.
At higher spends, Sapphiro earns more than twice as much.

Lounges and travel
This is where the cards split.
Domestic: Sapphiro gives 4 visits a quarter (16 a year) if you spent ₹75,000 in the previous calendar quarter. Select gives 2 a quarter (8 a year) on ₹50,000 spend in the preceding 3 months. From 28 August 2026, Select's domestic lounge entry uses the Select card itself, not the Priority Pass card.
International: Select is far ahead. You get 6 Priority Pass visits a year, doubling to 12 once you spend ₹3 lakh in a year. From 1 October 2026, spends on insurance, rent, fuel, education, utilities, wallets, gold, government services and gift cards don't count towards that ₹3 lakh. Sapphiro gives just 2 international visits a year.
If you fly abroad two or three times a year with a companion, Select's international visits are worth more than Sapphiro's extra domestic ones. Our explainer on quarterly spend triggers for lounge perks covers how to keep these benefits active.
Insurance: Sapphiro includes ₹3 crore air accident cover on card-purchased tickets, generous for this tier.
Fees and waivers
Sapphiro's first year costs ₹6,500, but the welcome vouchers (Tata CliQ, EaseMyTrip, Da Milano, Croma, EazyDiner Prime) are worth over ₹13,000 if you'd use those brands. From year two, the ₹3,500 fee is waived at ₹6 lakh.
Select costs ₹3,000 each year, waived at ₹8 lakh, which is harder to reach. Its 10,000 welcome points cover about two-thirds of the first-year fee.
Lifestyle perks
- Sapphiro: up to 4 golf rounds a month (tied to ₹50,000 monthly spend), BookMyShow/INOX buy-one-get-one twice a month on ₹25,000 quarterly spend, Culinary Treats dining discounts, 24/7 concierge.
- Select: 6 golf rounds a year (12 at ₹3 lakh spend), ₹200 off twice a month on Swiggy, periodic BigBasket discounts, fuel surcharge waiver capped at ₹400 per cycle.

Verdict
For higher spenders and domestic flyers, ICICI Sapphiro is the better card: at ₹75,000 a month it earns ₹8,000 a year against Select's ₹3,280, and its domestic lounge allowance is twice as large. For moderate spenders who travel internationally, Axis Select gives more useful lounge access for less money. Neither is a rewards powerhouse, so if earning back on everyday spend matters most, look elsewhere. Put both side by side on BestCard's compare tool or let the card matcher decide using your spending.
