HDFC Regalia Gold vs Axis Select 2026: Which Mid-Premium Card?
8 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

HDFC Regalia Gold is the better card for most people choosing between the two. Its milestone flight vouchers, quarterly shopping vouchers, lower forex markup and easier fee waiver add up to roughly double Axis Select's value at ₹50,000 a month of spend. Axis Select makes sense for someone who values golf, Swiggy discounts and extra international lounge visits more than reward value, or who doesn't meet Regalia Gold's ₹1.5 lakh monthly income bar.

Rewards maths
Regalia Gold's base rate is lower than Select's on the first ₹20,000 of the month, but its milestones are far richer. Spend level decides how big the gap is. These examples assume general spending and Regalia Gold points redeemed for flights or hotels at 50 paise.
At ₹50,000 a month (₹6 lakh a year)
HDFC Regalia Gold:
- Base: ₹6,00,000 × 1.25% = ₹7,500
- Flight voucher at ₹5 lakh: ₹5,000
- Quarterly voucher: ₹1.5 lakh a quarter is met every quarter, so 4 × ₹1,500 = ₹6,000
- Total: ₹18,500, and the fee is waived (₹6 lakh is above ₹4 lakh)
Axis Select:
- First ₹20,000 × 2% = ₹400, next ₹30,000 × 1% = ₹300, so ₹700 a month or ₹8,400 a year
- Milestone at ₹3 lakh: ₹1,000
- Total: ₹9,400, but the ₹3,000 fee is not waived (₹6 lakh is below ₹8 lakh), so net ₹6,400 before GST
If you use Select's ₹200 Swiggy discount twice every month, add up to ₹4,800, bringing it to about ₹11,200 net. Regalia Gold still leads.
At ₹1,00,000 a month (₹12 lakh a year)
HDFC Regalia Gold:
- Base: ₹12,00,000 × 1.25% = ₹15,000
- Flight vouchers at ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh: ₹10,000
- Quarterly vouchers: ₹6,000
- Total: ₹31,000, fee waived
Axis Select:
- ₹400 + (₹80,000 × 1%) = ₹1,200 a month, ₹14,400 a year
- Milestone: ₹1,000
- Total: ₹15,400, fee waived (₹12 lakh clears ₹8 lakh)
Select's ₹20,000 monthly cap on the 2% rate is what holds it back. Above that, every rupee earns 1%. Regalia Gold's 5X partner brands (Myntra, Nykaa, Reliance Digital, M&S, capped at 5,000 bonus points a month) and 2.5% on SmartBuy travel widen the gap further if you shop there.

Lounge and travel
Both cards gate domestic lounges behind spend in the previous period, a trend we cover in our lounge spend rules explainer.
- Regalia Gold: 3 domestic visits a quarter if you spent ₹60,000 the quarter before, and 6 international visits a year via Priority Pass. Boarding Edge (from 15 May 2026) lets you pick 2 of a spa visit, Uber airport transfer, hotel dining or room upgrade each quarter when you upload a boarding pass on SmartBuy.
- Axis Select: 2 domestic visits a quarter with ₹50,000 spend in the previous three months, accessed with the Select card itself since 28 August 2026. International visits start at 6 a year and double to 12 at ₹3 lakh of annual spend, though from 1 October 2026 reward-excluded categories (rent, fuel, utilities, insurance and others) don't count towards that ₹3 lakh.
For international travel, Regalia Gold's 2% forex markup beats Select's 3.5%. On ₹1 lakh spent abroad, that is ₹2,000 against ₹3,500, before 18% GST on the markup.
Fees and waivers
Regalia Gold costs less and waives at half the spend: ₹2,500 at ₹4 lakh against ₹3,000 at ₹8 lakh. At ₹33,334 a month you clear Regalia Gold's bar; you need ₹66,667 a month for Select's. Our fee waiver thresholds by bank list puts both in context.
Who should pick which
Choose HDFC Regalia Gold if:
- You spend ₹40,000 or more a month and can hit the ₹5 lakh flight voucher milestone
- You shop at Myntra, Nykaa or Reliance Digital, or book travel on SmartBuy

- You meet the ₹1.5 lakh monthly income requirement (₹1 lakh for government employees)

- You order on Swiggy often enough to use the ₹200 discount twice a month
- You want up to 12 international lounge visits a year
- You bank with Axis or can't meet Regalia Gold's income bar; you can apply for Axis Select here

Verdict
HDFC Regalia Gold wins on reward value at every realistic spend level, often by ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 a year, and it costs less to keep. Axis Select is a lifestyle card: pick it for golf, Swiggy savings and extra international lounges, not for rewards.
These figures reflect BestCard's latest card data. Both banks changed lounge and reward rules in 2026, so verify current terms on the issuer sites before applying. To compare either card against your own spending, use the compare tool or the BestCard matcher.
