HDFC Diners Club Black vs Axis Magnus 2026: Which Wins?
10 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

HDFC Diners Club Black and Axis Magnus are both super-premium cards with unlimited lounges and strong rewards, but they reward different behaviour. Diners Club Black pays off for high, steady spenders who hit its quarterly milestone and its ₹8 lakh fee waiver; Magnus pays off for travellers who transfer points to airline partners and don't mind paying the fee.
Both cards sit near the top of their banks' lineups. Here's how they compare on the numbers.
Head-to-head comparison
All figures come from BestCard's latest card data. Issuers revise terms frequently, so verify on HDFC's and Axis's sites before applying.
| Feature | HDFC Diners Club Black (Metal) | Axis Magnus |
|---|---|---|

| Annual fee | ₹10,000 + GST | ₹12,500 + GST |
| Fee waiver spend | ₹8,00,000 a year | ₹25,00,000 a year |
| Base reward rate | 3.33% | 4.8% |
| Key category rate | Dining 16.65% (5X on Swiggy and Zomato, monthly cap) | Travel 12% |
| Reward type / point value | Points, 100 paise each | Edge Reward points, 20 paise listed value |
| Forex markup | 2% | 2% |
| Domestic lounge | Unlimited, primary and add-on | Unlimited, using the Magnus card |
| International lounge | Unlimited, 1,300+ via Priority Pass | Unlimited via Priority Pass, plus 4 guest visits a year |
| Golf | 6 games or lessons per quarter | Complimentary games and lessons at select courses |
| Minimum income | ₹2,50,000 a month | ₹2,00,000 a month |
| Network | Diners Club | Visa |
One note on Magnus's numbers. Our data puts its effective base rate at 4.8%, which is the value when points are transferred to airline and hotel partners. Redeemed at the listed 20 paise a point, the same 12 points per ₹200 are worth only 1.2%. Diners Black points hold their ₹1 value more consistently through HDFC's SmartBuy and catalogue.
Rewards maths at two spend levels
₹75,000 a month (₹9 lakh a year)
Diners Club Black: 3.33% of ₹75,000 is about ₹2,498 a month, or ₹29,970 a year. Quarterly spend is ₹2.25 lakh, so the ₹4 lakh milestone isn't reached. Annual spend crosses ₹8 lakh, so the ₹10,000 fee is waived.
Magnus: 4.8% of ₹75,000 is ₹3,600 a month, or ₹43,200 a year at transfer value. The fee isn't waived (₹9 lakh is far from ₹25 lakh), so subtract ₹12,500 plus GST (₹14,750 in total). Net value is about ₹28,450.
At this level the two are close, and Diners wins if you'd redeem Magnus points for anything other than airline or hotel transfers.
₹1,50,000 a month (₹18 lakh a year)
Diners Club Black: 3.33% of ₹18 lakh is ₹59,940. Quarterly spend is ₹4.5 lakh, so you earn the 10,000-point milestone bonus every quarter, adding 40,000 points (₹40,000 at 100 paise). Total value: ₹99,940, with the fee waived.
Magnus: 4.8% of ₹18 lakh is ₹86,400 at transfer value. The fee is still payable at ₹14,750 including GST, so net value is about ₹71,650.
At high, steady spend, Diners Club Black pulls clearly ahead thanks to the milestone and the waiver.
Where the category rates change things
If a big share of your spend is travel bookings, Magnus's 12% travel rate narrows the gap. If you order on Swiggy and Zomato a lot, Diners Black's 5X dining rate (16.65% effective in our data, subject to a monthly cap) adds value that Magnus doesn't match. Check HDFC's current monthly cap before counting on it.

Lounge access and travel
Both cards offer unlimited lounge access, so this is close to a tie. The differences:
- Diners Club Black gives unlimited access to 1,300+ lounges worldwide for both primary and add-on cardholders, which is valuable for couples and families.
- Magnus gives unlimited access for the primary cardholder plus 4 Priority Pass guest visits a year. From 28 August 2026, Priority Pass works only at international lounges; domestic lounges in India are accessed with the Magnus card itself.
Magnus also lists air accident cover of up to ₹4 crore. Both charge a 2% forex markup, which is fair for this tier but not zero.
The real travel difference is acceptance. Diners Club is accepted less widely than Visa, both in India and abroad. If you're paying a local restaurant in Europe or a small shop in a tier-2 city, a Visa card like Magnus is less likely to be refused.
Fees, waivers and welcome benefits
Diners Club Black's ₹10,000 fee is waived at ₹8 lakh of annual spend, which many cardholders at its income level will reach. It also unlocks Club Marriott, Amazon Prime and Swiggy One memberships once you spend ₹1.5 lakh in the first 90 days.
Magnus's ₹12,500 fee is waived only at ₹25 lakh of annual spend, which is out of reach for most people. In year one, the welcome voucher worth ₹12,500 (Luxe, The Postcard Hotels or Yatra) offsets the joining fee. From year two, plan on paying the fee.
Who should pick which
Pick HDFC Diners Club Black if:
- You spend ₹4 lakh or more a quarter and can collect the milestone bonus
- You want the annual fee waived
- You order food often on Swiggy and Zomato
- You want unlimited lounges for add-on cardholders too
- You already have a Visa or Mastercard for places that don't take Diners
Pick Axis Magnus if:
- You transfer points to airline and hotel partners and know which programmes you use
- A good share of your spend is travel bookings
- You want wider Visa acceptance at home and abroad
- Your income meets ₹2 lakh a month but not Diners' ₹2.5 lakh

Verdict
For most high earners who spend steadily across the year, HDFC Diners Club Black gives more value: a waivable fee, a generous quarterly milestone and points that hold their value. Axis Magnus is the better choice for committed points-transfer users and frequent flyers who value Visa acceptance and can absorb the fee. If you can't decide, compare both side by side with the BestCard compare tool, or let the card matcher rank them against your spending.
