Insurance Covers Bundled With Credit Cards, Explained

Updated 12 April 2026

Many cards, especially at the premium end, bundle insurance covers as a benefit — genuinely useful, but usually conditional in ways that are easy to miss until you try to claim.

Common types

Travel insurance (trip cancellation, lost baggage, medical emergency abroad), purchase protection (damage or theft cover for a period after buying an item on the card), and personal accident or air accident cover are the most common bundled covers on Indian cards.

The condition that voids most claims

Travel insurance on a credit card is typically active only if the trip (flight, package) was actually booked using that specific card — booking through a different card or cash, then trying to claim the benefit, is the single most common reason people discover a cover doesn't apply when they need it.

What to actually do with this

Read the specific policy document (not just the marketing bullet point) for coverage limits, exclusions, and the claim process before you need it, and keep the insurer's contact details and your policy number somewhere accessible while traveling — not just assumed to be 'in the card' somewhere.
