Best Credit Cards for Airport Lounge Access in India 2026

If you last checked your card's lounge benefit a year or two ago, don't trust that memory. Issuers have been rewriting the fine print, and the card that got you into a lounge in 2023 may not get you in today without meeting new conditions.

Quarterly resets have replaced annual counts

The older model gave you a flat number of visits per year, easy to track loosely and use whenever. Several issuers have now switched to per-quarter caps instead. This sounds similar on paper but behaves very differently — unused visits from Q1 don't roll over to Q4, so a card that "gives 8 visits a year" might really mean 2 per quarter, use them or lose them. Check your card's terms for the word "quarter," not just the annual total.

Spend thresholds are climbing

Free lounge access used to come with owning the card. Now it's increasingly tied to spending a minimum amount in the preceding quarter or statement cycle. If you use a card mainly for its lounge perk but keep most spending on a different card, you may show up at the airport with zero eligible visits. Check your last few statements for whether the spend condition was actually met, not just what the card's brochure promises.

Some issuers now require booking the ticket on the same card

This is the newest wrinkle. A few cards have started requiring that the specific flight or an air ticket purchase be made using that card in order to unlock lounge access for that trip, not just general spend. If you book flights through a travel agent, employer portal, or a different card for cashback, you could be locking yourself out without realizing it.

Guest policies have tightened

Bringing a guest into a lounge used to be a fairly loose add-on, often free or cheap. It's now common to see per-guest fees rise or guest entries capped separately from the primary cardholder's own quota. If you're traveling as a family, price out guest entry before assuming everyone gets in free.

A pre-trip checklist worth five minutes

Before your next trip, confirm: current visit count remaining this quarter, whether your recent spend meets the threshold, whether the ticket needs to be booked on that specific card, and current guest fees. Airport lounge staff go by the issuer's live system, not last year's terms and conditions PDF.
