HDFC Millennia vs Amazon Pay ICICI 2026: Which Cashback Card Wins?
16 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

HDFC Millennia and Amazon Pay ICICI are both popular first cashback cards, but they suit different shoppers. HDFC Millennia is better for people whose online spending is spread across several apps, because its 5% covers Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy, Zomato and more, and it adds 2.5% on groceries. Amazon Pay ICICI is better for Prime members who spend heavily on Amazon, since its 5% isn't capped in BestCard's data, and it has no fee at all. The deciding factor is how much you spend on Amazon each month.

How the rewards actually work
HDFC Millennia
HDFC Millennia pays 5% CashPoints on a list of online merchants including Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy, Zomato and BookMyShow. That 5% is capped at ₹1,000 a month, which you reach at ₹20,000 of spend at those merchants. Groceries earn 2.5% up to ₹500 a month, utilities 1% up to ₹200, and everything else 1%. CashPoints redeem 1:1 against your statement, and you get 1,000 CashPoints on joining.
Amazon Pay ICICI
Amazon Pay ICICI pays 5% on Amazon.in with an active Prime membership, or 3% without. More than 100 Amazon Pay partner merchants earn 2%, and everything else earns 1%. Rewards land as Amazon Pay balance. BestCard's data shows no monthly cap on these rates.
Worked example 1: ₹25,000 a month
Split: ₹8,000 Amazon, ₹4,000 Flipkart, Swiggy and Zomato, ₹4,000 groceries, ₹9,000 other. Assumes Prime and that the non-Amazon apps earn ICICI's 1%.
HDFC Millennia
- Listed online merchants: 5% × ₹12,000 = ₹600
- Groceries: 2.5% × ₹4,000 = ₹100
- Other: 1% × ₹9,000 = ₹90
- Total: ₹790 a month, ₹9,480 a year
- ₹3 lakh a year clears the ₹1 lakh waiver, so no fee
Amazon Pay ICICI
- Amazon: 5% × ₹8,000 = ₹400
- Other apps: 1% × ₹4,000 = ₹40
- Groceries: 1% × ₹4,000 = ₹40
- Other: 1% × ₹9,000 = ₹90
- Total: ₹570 a month, ₹6,840 a year
Millennia earns about ₹2,640 more a year, mostly from 5% on non-Amazon apps and 2.5% on groceries.

Worked example 2: ₹50,000 a month, Amazon-heavy
Split: ₹30,000 Amazon, ₹5,000 other listed apps, ₹5,000 groceries, ₹10,000 other.
HDFC Millennia
- Listed online merchants: 5% × ₹35,000 = ₹1,750, capped at ₹1,000
- Groceries: 2.5% × ₹5,000 = ₹125
- Other: 1% × ₹10,000 = ₹100
- Total: ₹1,225 a month, ₹14,700 a year
Amazon Pay ICICI
- Amazon: 5% × ₹30,000 = ₹1,500
- Other apps: 1% × ₹5,000 = ₹50
- Groceries: 1% × ₹5,000 = ₹50
- Other: 1% × ₹10,000 = ₹100
- Total: ₹1,700 a month, ₹20,400 a year
Amazon Pay ICICI wins by ₹5,700 a year because Millennia's ₹1,000 cap stops counting at ₹20,000 of online spend. Without Prime, ICICI's Amazon rate drops to 3%, or ₹900 a month here, and Millennia would win.
Lounge access and travel
Neither is a travel card. HDFC Millennia gives one domestic lounge voucher per quarter, but only after ₹1 lakh of spend in that quarter, and you choose it instead of a ₹1,000 gift voucher. Amazon Pay ICICI has no lounge access. For foreign spends, ICICI's 1.99% markup is clearly better than Millennia's 3.5%. Redemption: CashPoints vs Amazon Pay balance
Millennia's CashPoints redeem 1:1 against your statement with no fee, but you have to log in and redeem them. Amazon Pay ICICI credits Amazon Pay balance automatically, which needs no action but can only be spent on Amazon and its partners. If you want flexible money, Millennia is better; if you shop on Amazon anyway, ICICI involves less effort. Fees and waivers
Amazon Pay ICICI is free for life. HDFC Millennia costs ₹1,000 a year but is waived on ₹1 lakh of annual spend, about ₹8,300 a month, which most regular users will reach. Millennia's income requirement is ₹35,000 a month against ₹30,000 for Amazon Pay ICICI.
Who should pick which
Choose HDFC Millennia if:
- You shop across Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy and Zomato
- You spend a fair amount on groceries
- Your listed online spend is ₹20,000 a month or less
- You want rewards as statement credit
Choose Amazon Pay ICICI if:
- You have Prime and spend more than ₹20,000 a month on Amazon
- You want a lifetime free card with no spend target
- You make foreign currency payments
- You already use Amazon Pay balance
Verdict
For mixed online shoppers spending moderately, HDFC Millennia earns more and its fee is easy to waive. Amazon Pay ICICI is the better choice for Prime members whose Amazon spending is above Millennia's ₹20,000 cap point, and it costs nothing to keep. Many people hold both: Amazon Pay ICICI for Amazon, Millennia for other apps and groceries.
