Swiggy HDFC and SBI Cashback are both online-first cashback cards, but they suit different spenders. If you order from Swiggy regularly, the Swiggy HDFC card earns more: 10% on the whole Swiggy app plus 5% on other online shopping is hard to match at a ₹500 fee. If your online spending is spread across many sites and mostly isn't Swiggy, SBI Cashback wins because its single 5% rate covers almost all e-commerce with a bigger ₹2,000 monthly cap.

How the rewards actually work

Swiggy HDFC

Swiggy HDFC pays 10% cashback across the Swiggy app, which covers food delivery, Instamart, Dineout and Genie. That bucket is capped at ₹1,500 a month, so it stops paying 10% once your Swiggy spend crosses ₹15,000. Other online shopping earns 5%, with its own ₹1,500 monthly cap (reached at ₹30,000 of spend). Everything else earns 1%. Fuel, rent, wallet loads, EMI and jewellery purchases earn nothing. Cashback goes straight to your statement, and new cardholders get a 3-month Swiggy One trial.

SBI Cashback

SBI Cashback is simpler. It pays 5% on online spends across merchants, not just a partner list, and 1% offline. The 5% is capped at ₹2,000 a month, which you reach at ₹40,000 of online spend. Fuel is excluded. Cashback is credited automatically each statement cycle. Swiggy orders count as online spend here, so they earn 5% rather than 10%.

Worked example 1: ₹25,000 a month

Split: ₹5,000 on Swiggy, ₹8,000 other online shopping, ₹12,000 offline.

Swiggy HDFC

  • Swiggy: 10% × ₹5,000 = ₹500
  • Online: 5% × ₹8,000 = ₹400
  • Offline: 1% × ₹12,000 = ₹120
  • Total: ₹1,020 a month, ₹12,240 a year

SBI Cashback

  • Online including Swiggy: 5% × ₹13,000 = ₹650, under the ₹2,000 cap
  • Offline: 1% × ₹12,000 = ₹120
  • Total: ₹770 a month, ₹9,240 a year

At ₹3 lakh a year, both fees are waived. Swiggy HDFC earns about ₹3,000 more, all of it from the extra 5% on Swiggy orders.

Worked example 2: ₹60,000 a month

Now a heavier online shopper who orders less food. Split: ₹2,000 on Swiggy, ₹38,000 other online shopping, ₹20,000 offline.

Swiggy HDFC

  • Swiggy: 10% × ₹2,000 = ₹200
  • Online: 5% × ₹38,000 = ₹1,900, capped at ₹1,500
  • Offline: 1% × ₹20,000 = ₹200
  • Total: ₹1,900 a month, ₹22,800 a year

SBI Cashback

  • Online including Swiggy: 5% × ₹40,000 = ₹2,000, exactly at the cap
  • Offline: 1% × ₹20,000 = ₹200
  • Total: ₹2,200 a month, ₹26,400 a year

Here SBI Cashback wins by ₹3,600 a year. The reason is the cap: Swiggy HDFC's online bucket tops out at ₹30,000 of spend, while SBI Cashback keeps paying 5% up to ₹40,000. If ₹8,000 of that online spend went on Swiggy instead, Swiggy HDFC would move back in front, at ₹2,500 a month against ₹2,200.

Lounge access and travel

Neither card is built for travel. BestCard's data lists no airport lounge access on either, and both charge a 3.5% forex markup, so any foreign spend costs more than the 1% you earn back. Keep a separate travel card for trips. Our best travel credit cards with lounge access is a good place to start.

Redemption

Both cards credit cashback to your statement automatically, so there are no points to track or redeem and nothing expires. That makes the comparison purely about rates and caps. Swiggy HDFC's 3-month Swiggy One trial adds free delivery and extra discounts at the start, which helps if you order often. Remember that excluded categories earn nothing on either card, and the exact exclusion lists differ, so check them against your own spending. Our guide to credit card cashback exclusions explains what usually gets left out.

Fees and waivers

Swiggy HDFC is cheaper to hold at ₹500 a year against ₹999 for SBI Cashback. Both are waived at the same ₹2 lakh of annual spend, roughly ₹16,700 a month. If you spend less than that, you pay the fee on either card, and SBI's is about double.

Swiggy HDFC also waives the 1% fuel surcharge on transactions between ₹400 and ₹1,00,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle, though fuel itself earns no cashback. BestCard's data doesn't list a fuel surcharge waiver for SBI Cashback, and fuel is excluded from its cashback too, so check SBI's current terms if you fill up often.

Eligibility also differs. Swiggy HDFC asks for ₹15,000 a month of income, while SBI Cashback asks for ₹25,000, so Swiggy HDFC is easier to get as a first card.

Who should pick which

Choose Swiggy HDFC if:

  • You spend ₹3,000 or more a month on Swiggy food, Instamart or Dineout
  • Your other online shopping stays under about ₹30,000 a month
  • You want a low fee and a low income bar

Choose SBI Cashback if:

  • You shop across many websites and Swiggy is a small part of it
  • Your online spend regularly goes above ₹30,000 a month
  • You want one flat online rate without thinking about categories

Verdict

For regular Swiggy users, the Swiggy HDFC card earns more for less money. For heavy online shoppers who rarely order food, SBI Cashback is the stronger pick because its 5% covers almost all e-commerce with a larger cap. Many people hold both: Swiggy HDFC for Swiggy orders, SBI Cashback for everything else online.

Frequently asked questions

Is Swiggy HDFC better than SBI Cashback?

If you order from Swiggy every week, Swiggy HDFC usually earns more because it pays 10% on the Swiggy app on top of 5% on other online shopping. If most of your online spend is outside Swiggy and runs above ₹30,000 a month, SBI Cashback pulls ahead thanks to its larger ₹2,000 monthly cap.

What are the cashback caps on these two cards?

In BestCard's data, Swiggy HDFC caps the 10% Swiggy cashback at ₹1,500 a month and the 5% online cashback at a separate ₹1,500 a month. SBI Cashback caps its 5% online cashback at ₹2,000 a month.

Which card has the cheaper fee?

Swiggy HDFC charges ₹500 a year and SBI Cashback ₹999. Both fees are waived on ₹2 lakh of annual spend, so at that level the cost difference disappears.

Do these cards offer lounge access?

No. Neither card lists airport lounge access in BestCard's data, and both charge a 3.5% forex markup. They are everyday cashback cards, not travel cards.
