Most cashback cards make you chase a rotating list of partner merchants to get their best rate. The SBI Cashback Card skips that entirely — it pays 5% cashback on basically any online purchase, from any merchant, with no partner list to memorize. That simplicity is the whole pitch, and it's a strong one if your spending is already mostly online.

Who it's for

This card is built for people who shop online across many different sites rather than one or two favourites — Amazon one week, a D2C skincare brand the next, food delivery, an airline site, a SaaS subscription. Because the 5% rate applies broadly to online spend rather than to a curated merchant list, you don't have to plan purchases around the card to get its best rate. If you already read our guide to the best cashback credit cards in India, this one is usually near the top for exactly that reason.

Reward structure and earn rate

The math is straightforward: 5% cashback on online spends, capped at ₹2,000 in cashback per month, and 1% on everything else (offline swipes, POS transactions). Since the cap works out to roughly ₹40,000 of monthly online spend before you hit the ceiling, most individual cardholders won't bump into it under normal usage — it starts to matter mainly for larger one-off purchases like electronics or flight bookings made late in the billing cycle after you've already used up the month's cap.

Cashback is credited automatically to the statement each cycle — there's no manual redemption step, no expiring points, and no separate cashback-to-statement-credit conversion to think about. If you'd rather understand cashback against a points-based alternative before deciding, our rewards vs cashback comparison breaks down the trade-offs.

Key benefits

Beyond the headline cashback rate, the card is intentionally light on extras — no lounge access, no milestone travel benefits, no complicated tier structure. That's a feature, not an oversight: it keeps the value proposition entirely about the cashback rate rather than benefits you may never use. The one thing worth flagging is the ₹99 + tax redemption fee that applies if you ever redeem reward points for vouchers or products, though this is largely irrelevant since cashback itself posts automatically without any redemption step.

Fees

The joining and annual fee are both ₹999, and the annual fee is waived if you spend ₹2 lakh or more in the preceding year — a bar that's easy to clear if you're routing most spending through this card already. Cash withdrawals carry the standard SBI Card cash advance charges (2.5% or ₹300, whichever is higher, domestically) and earn no cashback, so it should never be used as a cash-access card.

How to apply

You'll need a credit score of roughly 700 or higher and a minimum monthly income of about ₹25,000 to qualify, whether salaried or self-employed. Apply directly through the SBI Card application link — approval typically depends on your existing relationship with SBI and your credit bureau report, so having a clean repayment history helps.

Where to go from here
