Paytm SBI Card SELECT Review 2026: Is the ₹1,499 Fee Worth It?

The Paytm SBI Card SELECT is a cashback card that pays 5% on movie, travel and mall bookings made through the Paytm app and 2% on most other spends, for a ₹1,499 fee that's waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend. It's a strong pick if you already book through Paytm and want simple cashback with a few lounge visits on top. If you rarely open the Paytm app, there are cheaper ways to earn 2%.

Who this card is for

The SELECT suits a specific kind of user:

  • You book movie tickets, train or flight tickets and mall purchases through the Paytm app.
  • You spend at least ₹2 lakh a year on the card, so the fee goes away from year two.
  • You fly domestically a few times a year and would use 4 free lounge visits.
  • You want cashback credited automatically rather than points to manage.

It's a weaker fit if most of your spending happens on Amazon or Flipkart, if you travel abroad often (more on the forex markup below), or if you want a lifetime-free card.

Fees and waiver

Item Paytm SBI Card SELECT
Joining fee ₹1,499 + GST
Annual fee ₹1,499 + GST
Fee waiver ₹2 lakh annual spend
Forex markup 3.5%
Minimum monthly income ₹20,000
Network Visa

The ₹2 lakh waiver works out to about ₹16,700 a month, which most people using this as a primary card will clear. The first-year fee is offset by a complimentary Paytm First membership and partner vouchers that SBI values at up to ₹75,000. That value is spread across the first year as discounts and vouchers, not handed over as cash, so treat it as a bonus rather than a reason to apply.

Reward structure

Per BestCard's data, the card earns:

  • 5% cashback on movies, travel and mall purchases booked through the Paytm app
  • 2% cashback on most other spends
  • 1% base rate on categories that don't qualify for the 2% tier

On top of that, there are two spend milestones: a ₹2,000 voucher at ₹4 lakh of annual retail spend, stepping up to a ₹4,000 voucher at ₹6 lakh.

The dataset doesn't list a monthly cap on the cashback, but SBI Card's cashback cards typically carve out categories such as fuel (the SBI Cashback Card does), and caps can change. Check the current exclusion list on SBI Card's site before you plan big spends around the 5% rate.

Worked example at ₹35,000 a month

Say you spend ₹35,000 a month, split like this:

  • ₹7,000 on Paytm app bookings (movies, train tickets, a mall purchase) at 5% = ₹350
  • ₹24,000 on regular spends at 2% = ₹480
  • ₹4,000 in categories that earn only the base 1% = ₹40

That's ₹870 a month, or ₹10,440 a year. Your annual spend of ₹4.2 lakh also crosses the ₹4 lakh milestone, adding a ₹2,000 voucher. Total value: roughly ₹12,440 a year, and the ₹1,499 renewal fee is waived because you've crossed ₹2 lakh.

At ₹20,000 a month with less Paytm usage, say ₹3,000 at 5% and ₹17,000 at 2%, you'd earn ₹490 a month, or ₹5,880 a year. You'd still clear the ₹2 lakh waiver with ₹2.4 lakh of spend, but you'd miss the milestones.

Lounge, travel and other benefits

  • Lounge access: 4 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits a year, plus a Priority Pass membership (worth $99) for the first two years. Priority Pass visits are paid entry, so the membership mainly saves you the card fee, not the visit charges.
  • Fuel: 1% surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle.
  • Cyber fraud insurance: cover of ₹2 lakh against unauthorised digital transactions.
  • Forex: 3.5% markup on international spends, which is standard but expensive. Use a low forex markup card abroad instead.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 5% cashback on Paytm app movie, travel and mall bookings
  • A solid 2% on most other spends, higher than many cashback cards' base rate
  • 4 domestic lounge visits a year plus two years of Priority Pass membership
  • ₹2 lakh cyber fraud cover
  • Milestone vouchers that reward steady annual spend

Cons

  • The best rate depends on booking through the Paytm app
  • 3.5% forex markup makes it poor for overseas spending
  • Fee waiver needs ₹2 lakh of annual spend
  • Welcome value is spread out as vouchers and discounts over the first year

Eligibility

BestCard's data lists a minimum monthly income of ₹20,000. As with any SBI Card, approval also depends on your CIBIL score, existing debt and repayment history. If you're salaried with a clean credit report, this is one of the easier mid-tier cards to get.

How it compares

  • Paytm SBI Card (the base version): ₹499 fee, 3% on travel and 2% on online shopping per our data, but no lounge access. If you don't need lounges, the base card costs ₹1,000 less a year.
  • SBI Cashback Card: 5% on all online spends, not just Paytm, capped at ₹2,000 a month, for ₹999. Better if you shop across Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra and others. Our SBI Cashback deep dive has the full maths.
  • ICICI Amazon Pay: lifetime free with 5% on Amazon.in for Prime members and 1% elsewhere. Better if Amazon is your main shopping destination and you don't want any fee.

All figures here reflect BestCard's latest card data. Issuers change cashback rates, caps and exclusions without much notice, so verify on SBI Card's site before applying.

Verdict

The Paytm SBI Card SELECT is worth it if the Paytm app is already where you book movies, trains, flights and the odd mall purchase. The 2% rate on regular spends and 4 lounge visits make it a capable all-rounder, and the fee is easy to waive. If your online spending is spread across many sites, the SBI Cashback Card earns more for less.
