HDFC Regalia Gold vs Axis Magnus 2026: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

HDFC Regalia Gold and Axis Magnus are both travel cards with a 2% forex markup, but they sit at different price points. Regalia Gold is the better card for most people earning ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh a month: its ₹2,500 fee is easy to waive and its milestone vouchers add real value. Axis Magnus is the better card for high spenders with heavy travel bookings who transfer points to airline and hotel partners: its 12% Travel EDGE rate and roughly 2.4% base rate at transfer value outweigh its bigger fee once spend reaches around ₹2 lakh a month, and its lounge access is unlimited. Below that, or if you won't transfer points, Regalia Gold comes out ahead.

How the rewards actually work

HDFC Regalia Gold

HDFC Regalia Gold earns 5 Reward Points per ₹200 since 15 May 2026, which BestCard values at about 1.25% when redeemed for flights or hotels on SmartBuy. Travel spend earns 2.5%. There are 5X points at Myntra, Nykaa, Reliance Digital and Marks & Spencer, capped at 5,000 bonus points a month. The extras matter more than the base rate: ₹5,000 of flight vouchers each at ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh of annual spend, and a ₹1,500 Myntra or Nykaa voucher for every quarter with ₹1.5 lakh of spend.

Axis Magnus

Axis Magnus earns 12 Edge Reward points per ₹200. The regular Magnus transfers to airline and hotel partners at 5:2, so at ₹1 a mile BestCard lists this as about 2.4% at partner transfer value, and 12% on travel spend through Travel EDGE. (Magnus for Burgundy transfers at 5:4, roughly doubling the base, but it needs a Burgundy relationship.) The catch is how you redeem. At the listed 20 paise a point, 12 points per ₹200 works out to only 1.2%, and travel drops to about 6%. Axis has historically applied monthly caps on accelerated earning, which our data doesn't list, so check Axis's current terms if you plan large travel bookings.

Worked example 1: ₹75,000 a month

Split: ₹10,000 travel, ₹65,000 other. Annual spend is ₹9 lakh.

HDFC Regalia Gold

  • Travel: 2.5% × ₹10,000 = ₹250
  • Other: 1.25% × ₹65,000 = ₹812.50
  • ₹1,062.50 a month, ₹12,750 a year
  • Milestone flight vouchers at ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh: ₹10,000
  • Quarterly vouchers, 4 × ₹1,500 = ₹6,000
  • Fee waived (₹9 lakh is above ₹4 lakh)
  • Total: ₹28,750 a year

Axis Magnus at transfer value

  • Travel: 12% × ₹10,000 = ₹1,200
  • Other: 2.4% × ₹65,000 = ₹1,560
  • ₹2,760 a month, ₹33,120 a year
  • Fee not waived: ₹12,500 + 18% GST = ₹14,750
  • Net: ₹18,370 a year

Axis Magnus at 20 paise a point

  • Travel 6% × ₹10,000 = ₹600, other 1.2% × ₹65,000 = ₹780
  • ₹1,380 a month, ₹16,560 a year, minus ₹14,750
  • Net: about ₹1,810 a year

At this spend, Regalia Gold wins by about ₹10,000 even if you transfer every Magnus point. Redeem Magnus points for cash-like value and Regalia Gold is far ahead.

Airport lounge seating with a view of the runway

Worked example 2: ₹2 lakh a month

Split: ₹40,000 travel, ₹1,60,000 other. Annual spend is ₹24 lakh.

HDFC Regalia Gold

  • Travel: 2.5% × ₹40,000 = ₹1,000
  • Other: 1.25% × ₹1,60,000 = ₹2,000
  • ₹3,000 a month, ₹36,000 a year
  • Milestones ₹10,000 plus quarterly vouchers ₹6,000, fee waived
  • Total: ₹52,000 a year

Axis Magnus at transfer value

  • Travel: 12% × ₹40,000 = ₹4,800
  • Other: 2.4% × ₹1,60,000 = ₹3,840
  • ₹8,640 a month, ₹1,03,680 a year
  • ₹24 lakh is just short of the ₹25 lakh waiver, so subtract ₹14,750
  • Net: ₹88,930 a year

Axis Magnus at 20 paise a point

  • Travel 6% × ₹40,000 = ₹2,400, other 1.2% × ₹1,60,000 = ₹1,920
  • ₹4,320 a month, ₹51,840 a year, minus ₹14,750
  • Net: ₹37,090 a year

At this level, with a fifth of spend on travel, a points transferrer gets about ₹37,000 a year more from Magnus than from Regalia Gold, largely thanks to the 12% travel rate. Someone redeeming at 20 paise still does better with Regalia Gold.

Lounge access and travel

Magnus is the clear winner here. It offers unlimited domestic and international lounge visits for the primary cardholder plus 4 guest visits a year on Priority Pass. From 28 August 2026, Priority Pass works only at international lounges, and domestic lounges in India are accessed with the Magnus card itself.

Regalia Gold gives 3 domestic visits per quarter, but only if you spent ₹60,000 in the previous quarter, so new cardholders get none in their first quarter. It adds 6 international visits a year through Priority Pass and the Boarding Edge perks, which let you pick 2 of a spa visit, Uber airport transfer, hotel dining or room upgrade each quarter. Both cards charge a 2% forex markup. Magnus also lists air accident cover up to ₹4 crore and golf benefits. See best credit cards with unlimited airport lounge access for alternatives.

Redemption

Regalia Gold gives you clear rupee values: ₹0.65 per point on the exclusive Gold catalogue, ₹0.50 on SmartBuy flights and hotels (up to 70% of a booking, 50,000 points a month), and lower values for vouchers or statement credit. Magnus works best through Edge Rewards transfers to airline and hotel partners, with no transfer fee. Cash or statement-credit redemption is worth much less. Our guide to transferring points to airline miles explains how to get the most from transfers.

Fees and waivers

Regalia Gold costs ₹2,500 a year and is waived at ₹4 lakh of annual spend, about ₹33,300 a month. Magnus costs ₹12,500 and needs ₹25 lakh to waive, which most cardholders won't reach. In year one, the ₹12,500 Magnus welcome voucher offsets the joining fee. Income requirements are ₹1.5 lakh a month for Regalia Gold and ₹2 lakh for Magnus.

Who should pick which

Choose HDFC Regalia Gold if:

  • Your income is between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹2 lakh a month
  • You spend ₹4 lakh to ₹10 lakh a year and can hit the ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh milestones
  • You prefer simple redemptions on SmartBuy or the Gold catalogue

Choose Axis Magnus if:

  • You earn over ₹2 lakh a month and spend well above ₹75,000 monthly, ideally ₹2 lakh or more
  • A good share of that spend is travel booked through Travel EDGE
  • You will transfer points to airline or hotel partners
  • You travel often enough to use unlimited lounges and guest visits

Verdict

For most upper-middle earners, HDFC Regalia Gold gives better value with less effort and a fee that's easy to waive. Axis Magnus is the stronger card for high spenders (around ₹2 lakh a month or more) who book a lot of travel and transfer points, but at moderate spend or if you redeem at the listed point value, Regalia Gold comes out ahead.
