HDFC Regalia Gold vs Axis Atlas 2026: Which Travel Card Is Worth It?
14 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

HDFC Regalia Gold and Axis Atlas both target people who fly a few times a year, but they pay you back in different ways. Regalia Gold is the better all-rounder: a lower fee that can be waived, a 2% forex markup, and milestone vouchers worth up to ₹10,000 a year. Axis Atlas suits heavy travel bookers who will transfer EDGE Miles to airline and hotel partners, where its 5% travel rate and tiered lounge access are hard to match. If you don't transfer miles, Regalia Gold usually comes out ahead.

How the rewards actually work
HDFC Regalia Gold
HDFC Regalia Gold earns 5 Reward Points per ₹200 on eligible spends since 15 May 2026. Redeemed for flights or hotels on SmartBuy at ₹0.50 a point, that is about 1.25%. The exclusive Gold catalogue values points at ₹0.65, which pushes the rate to about 1.6%. Statement credit is poor at up to ₹0.20. SmartBuy redemptions can cover up to 70% of a booking, with a 50,000-point monthly limit.
On top of that, you get 5X points at Myntra, Nykaa, Reliance Digital and Marks & Spencer (bonus capped at 5,000 points a month), ₹5,000 of flight vouchers at ₹5 lakh and again at ₹7.5 lakh of annual spend, and a ₹1,500 Myntra or Nykaa voucher for every quarter with ₹1.5 lakh of spend.
Axis Atlas
Axis Atlas earns EDGE Miles: a 2% headline rate on general spend and 5% on flights and hotels booked through the Travel EDGE portal. The headline rates assume you transfer miles to one of Axis's 20+ airline and hotel partners. Other redemption modes are worth far less; BestCard's data values them at ₹0.20 a mile. You also get 2,500 EDGE Miles on your first transaction and milestone miles as you cross spend tiers. Axis has changed the milestone table before, so check the current amounts.
Worked example 1: ₹50,000 a month
Split: ₹10,000 travel, ₹40,000 other. Annual spend: ₹6 lakh.
HDFC Regalia Gold
- Travel: 2.5% × ₹10,000 = ₹250
- Other: 1.25% × ₹40,000 = ₹500
- Points value: ₹750 a month, ₹9,000 a year
- Milestone: ₹5,000 flight voucher at ₹5 lakh
- Quarterly vouchers: ₹1.5 lakh each quarter, so 4 × ₹1,500 = ₹6,000
- Fee waived (₹6 lakh is above ₹4 lakh)
- Total: about ₹20,000 a year
Axis Atlas
- Travel: 5% × ₹10,000 = 500 miles
- Other: 2% × ₹40,000 = 800 miles
- 1,300 miles a month, 15,600 miles a year
- At the headline transfer value: about ₹15,600, minus the ₹5,000 fee = ₹10,600
- At ₹0.20 a mile: ₹3,120, less than the fee
- Total: ₹10,600 at best before milestone miles
Regalia Gold wins clearly at this spend unless Atlas's milestone miles and transfer partners are worth a lot to you.

Worked example 2: ₹1 lakh a month
Split: ₹25,000 travel, ₹75,000 other. Annual spend: ₹12 lakh.
HDFC Regalia Gold
- Travel: 2.5% × ₹25,000 = ₹625
- Other: 1.25% × ₹75,000 = ₹937.50
- Points value: ₹1,562.50 a month, ₹18,750 a year
- Milestones: ₹5,000 + ₹5,000 = ₹10,000
- Quarterly vouchers: 4 × ₹1,500 = ₹6,000
- Fee waived
- Total: about ₹34,750 a year
Axis Atlas
- Travel: 5% × ₹25,000 = 1,250 miles
- Other: 2% × ₹75,000 = 1,500 miles
- 2,750 miles a month, 33,000 miles a year
- At the headline transfer value: about ₹33,000, minus ₹5,000 = ₹28,000, plus milestone miles
- You also reach the Gold tier at ₹7.5 lakh: 12 domestic and 6 international lounge visits
At this level the two are close. If you transfer miles well and value the extra lounge visits, Atlas can edge ahead. If you redeem through catalogues or cash, Regalia Gold wins comfortably.
Lounge access and travel
Atlas has the stronger lounge setup on paper. It starts at 8 domestic and 4 international visits a year at Silver, rises to 12 and 6 at Gold (₹7.5 lakh spend) and 18 and 12 at Platinum (₹15 lakh spend). International visits are through Priority Pass.
Regalia Gold gives 6 international visits a year through Priority Pass. Its 3 domestic visits a quarter only unlock if you spent ₹60,000 in the previous quarter, so new cardholders get none in their first quarter. Regalia Gold also adds Boarding Edge: upload a boarding pass on SmartBuy and pick 2 of a spa visit, Uber airport transfer, hotel dining or room upgrade each quarter.
For spending abroad, Regalia Gold's 2% forex markup beats Atlas's 3.5%. On ₹1 lakh of foreign spend, that is ₹1,500 saved before GST. Our low forex markup cards guide covers better options for frequent overseas use.
Redemption
Regalia Gold rewards depend on where you spend points. SmartBuy flights and hotels at ₹0.50 and the Gold catalogue at ₹0.65 are the good options; statement credit at ₹0.20 is not. Atlas is even more polarised: EDGE Miles are worth the most when transferred to airline or hotel partners and much less elsewhere. Transfers carry no fee. Read how reward point transfers to airline miles work before choosing Atlas.
Fees and waivers
Regalia Gold costs ₹2,500 a year and is free once you spend ₹4 lakh, about ₹33,300 a month. Atlas costs ₹5,000 every year with no waiver, so you need to earn back that amount before it pays off. The income bar is lower on Atlas at ₹1 lakh a month against ₹1.5 lakh for Regalia Gold.
Who should pick which
Choose HDFC Regalia Gold if:
- You spend ₹4 lakh or more a year and want the fee waived
- You will hit the ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh milestones
- You spend in foreign currency and want a 2% markup
- You prefer simple redemptions through SmartBuy or the Gold catalogue
Choose Axis Atlas if:
- You book a large share of flights and hotels through Travel EDGE
- You will transfer miles to airline or hotel partners
- You want lounge visits that grow with spend
- Your income is between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh a month
Verdict
For most travellers, HDFC Regalia Gold gives more value for less effort, mainly through its milestones, fee waiver and lower forex markup. Axis Atlas is the better tool for heavy travel bookers who transfer miles and want a lot of lounge visits, but only if you will use it enough to cover a ₹5,000 fee that never goes away.
