How each card earns

IDFC FIRST Wealth

IDFC FIRST Wealth earns a low 0.375% base, 1.25% on dining and travel, and only 0.125% on utilities. Points are worth 25 paise. The value is elsewhere: zero joining and annual fee, zero forex markup since 9 Sep 2026, ₹1 crore air accident cover, trip cancellation cover up to ₹10,000, roadside assistance, Buy 1 Get 1 movie tickets and up to 20% off at 1,500+ restaurants. International spends stop earning reward points from 26 Oct 2026, which is the price of the zero markup.

HDFC Regalia Gold

HDFC Regalia Gold earns 5 reward points per ₹200 since 15 May 2026, worth about 1.25% when redeemed for flights or hotels on SmartBuy at ₹0.50 a point, or up to ₹0.65 on the Gold catalogue. Travel earns 2.5% in our data. The bigger draw is the milestone stack: ₹5,000 flight vouchers at both ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh of annual spend, plus a ₹1,500 Myntra or Nykaa voucher for every quarter with ₹1.5 lakh of spend. It also offers 5X points at Myntra, Nykaa, Reliance Digital and Marks & Spencer, capped at 5,000 bonus points a month.

Worked example 1: ₹50,000 a month

Split: ₹10,000 dining, ₹5,000 travel, ₹35,000 other. Annual spend ₹6 lakh.

IDFC FIRST Wealth

  • Dining: 1.25% × ₹10,000 = ₹125
  • Travel: 1.25% × ₹5,000 = ₹62.50
  • Other: 0.375% × ₹35,000 = ₹131.25
  • Monthly ₹318.75, yearly about ₹3,825, no fee

HDFC Regalia Gold

  • Travel: 2.5% × ₹5,000 = ₹125
  • Dining and other: 1.25% × ₹45,000 = ₹562.50
  • Monthly ₹687.50, yearly ₹8,250
  • ₹5 lakh milestone: ₹5,000 flight voucher
  • Quarterly vouchers: ₹1.5 lakh a quarter is exactly ₹50,000 a month, so 4 × ₹1,500 = ₹6,000
  • Fee waived at ₹4 lakh
  • Yearly value about ₹19,250

Traveller in an airport terminal holding a card and boarding pass

Worked example 2: ₹1 lakh a month

Split: ₹20,000 dining, ₹10,000 travel, ₹70,000 other. Annual spend ₹12 lakh.

IDFC FIRST Wealth

  • Dining ₹250 + travel ₹125 + other 0.375% × ₹70,000 = ₹262.50
  • Monthly ₹637.50, yearly about ₹7,650

HDFC Regalia Gold

  • Travel 2.5% × ₹10,000 = ₹250; dining and other 1.25% × ₹90,000 = ₹1,125
  • Monthly ₹1,375, yearly ₹16,500
  • Both flight milestones: ₹10,000
  • Quarterly vouchers: ₹6,000
  • Yearly value about ₹32,500

On domestic spend alone, Regalia Gold earns four times as much.

Where Wealth fights back: international spend

Now add ₹2 lakh of overseas spending in a year, say one family holiday.

  • Regalia Gold: 2% markup = ₹4,000, plus 18% GST on the markup = ₹720. Cost ₹4,720.
  • IDFC FIRST Wealth: 0% markup. Cost nil, though it earns no points on that spend.

At ₹5 lakh abroad a year, the gap grows to about ₹11,800. For someone who travels internationally often, or pays foreign merchants regularly, that saving can close much of Regalia Gold's rewards lead. Our list of best zero forex markup cards has more options in this space.

Lounge and travel benefits

Regalia Gold has more lounge visits: 6 international via Priority Pass, plus 3 domestic a quarter if you spent ₹60,000 the previous quarter. New cardholders get no domestic lounge access in their first quarter. It also adds Boarding Edge (2 travel perks a quarter like a spa visit or airport transfer) and Swiggy One plus MakeMyTrip Black Gold memberships on ₹1 lakh of spend in the first 90 days.

Wealth gives 1 domestic and 1 international visit a quarter, each needing ₹20,000 of spend in the month. Fewer visits, but a lower trigger. It also includes quarterly golf, which Regalia Gold doesn't list.

Fees and eligibility

Wealth costs nothing to hold, ever. Regalia Gold costs ₹2,500 unless you spend ₹4 lakh, about ₹33,400 a month.

Eligibility is the real filter. Wealth needs ₹3 lakh a month in income; Regalia Gold needs ₹1.5 lakh. If you earn between the two, the choice is made for you.

Who should pick which

Pick HDFC Regalia Gold if:

  • Most of your spending is in India
  • You can reach ₹5 lakh, ideally ₹7.5 lakh, a year to collect flight vouchers
  • You want more lounge visits and redeem points for travel on SmartBuy

Pick IDFC FIRST Wealth if:

  • You spend several lakh a year abroad
  • You never want to pay an annual fee or track a waiver
  • You value insurance, golf and dining discounts over points
  • You earn ₹3 lakh a month or more

Verdict

For a typical premium cardholder spending in India, HDFC Regalia Gold is the stronger card by a wide margin, mainly because of its milestone vouchers. IDFC FIRST Wealth earns its place as a zero-cost, zero-markup card for international spend, and many high earners would do best holding both: Regalia Gold at home, Wealth abroad.
