Axis Reserve vs ICICI Emeralde 2026: Memberships or Rewards?
26 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

Axis Reserve and ICICI Emeralde are both Visa super-premium cards with unlimited lounge access and a credit score floor of 780, but they ask you to pay for different things. Axis Reserve is a lifestyle card first: memberships, golf and a concierge, at a ₹50,000 annual fee. ICICI Emeralde is a rewards card first: a listed flat 4% on general spend at a ₹12,000 fee. If you care about points, Emeralde is far ahead on our numbers. If you will use the Reserve memberships and golf, the Reserve case is different.

How the rewards actually work
Axis Reserve
Axis Reserve earns 1.5% on travel and the same 1.5% base rate everywhere else, in EDGE Reward points valued at 20 paise each in our data. Redemption for travel, vouchers or statement credit carries no fee. Axis does not publish the point mechanics in detail, so our numbers rest on the 1.5% listed. The card is largely invitation-oriented, and its real selling points are the Club ITC Culinaire, Accorplus and Club Marriott Asia Pacific memberships, 50 golf rounds a year and a 24x7 concierge.
ICICI Emeralde
ICICI Emeralde lists a flat 4% on general spend, with utilities at just 1%. Points are valued at ₹1 each in our data. Redemption is free for statement credit or ICICI's own catalogue vouchers, and costs ₹99 plus GST per request for select third-party catalogue items. Extras include a ₹3 crore air accident cover on tickets bought with the card, baggage loss and delay protection, and Culinary Treats dining discounts.
Worked example 1: ₹1,00,000 a month
Split: ₹20,000 travel, ₹10,000 utilities, ₹70,000 other. Annual spend ₹12 lakh.
Axis Reserve
- Everything at 1.5%: 1.5% × ₹1,00,000 = ₹1,500
- Total: ₹1,500 a month, ₹18,000 a year
- Annual spend of ₹12 lakh is well short of the ₹35 lakh waiver, so the ₹50,000 fee applies
- Net: about −₹32,000 before counting memberships or golf
ICICI Emeralde
- ₹90,000 at 4% = ₹3,600
- Utilities: 1% × ₹10,000 = ₹100
- Total: ₹3,700 a month, ₹44,400 a year
- ₹12 lakh clears the ₹10 lakh waiver, so no fee
- Net: ₹44,400
At this spend the gap is large. Reserve would need ₹32,000 of membership, golf and lounge value just to break even on its fee, before it matches Emeralde.

Worked example 2: ₹3,00,000 a month
Split: ₹60,000 travel, ₹30,000 utilities, ₹2,10,000 other. Annual spend ₹36 lakh.
Axis Reserve
- 1.5% × ₹3,00,000 = ₹4,500
- Total: ₹4,500 a month, ₹54,000 a year
- ₹36 lakh clears the ₹35 lakh waiver, so no fee
ICICI Emeralde
- ₹2,70,000 at 4% = ₹10,800
- Utilities: 1% × ₹30,000 = ₹300
- Total: ₹11,100 a month, ₹1,33,200 a year
- Fee waived
Even with Reserve's fee waived, Emeralde earns ₹79,200 more in a year on points. Reserve's case at this level is entirely the memberships, golf, concierge and the nil cash-withdrawal fee. If those are worth over ₹79,000 a year to you, Reserve closes the gap. For most people they are not.
Lounge access and travel
Both cards list unlimited domestic lounge access and Priority Pass for international lounges. Reserve extends domestic access to guests, while Emeralde covers the primary and add-on cardholders and charges for guest visits beyond its complimentary quota. Our data does not give that quota, so check it with ICICI. See our notes on hidden costs of guest entries.
On forex, Reserve's 1.5% is lower than Emeralde's 2%. On ₹1 lakh of foreign spend that is ₹1,500 against ₹2,000, a ₹500 difference that Emeralde's 4% earn more than covers. Emeralde also adds a ₹3 crore air accident cover on card-purchased tickets, which Reserve lists only as air accident cover with the sum insured on request.
For golfers, Reserve lists up to 50 complimentary golf games or lessons a year at select courses in India and abroad. Emeralde also lists complimentary rounds and lessons, but ties them to monthly spend thresholds that our data does not spell out.
Fees and waivers
Reserve's ₹50,000 fee is waived only at ₹35 lakh a year, about ₹2.92 lakh a month. Emeralde's ₹12,000 fee is waived at ₹10 lakh a year, about ₹83,333 a month. Emeralde's bar is much easier to reach.
On eligibility, Emeralde asks for ₹1,50,000 a month and a 780 score. Reserve lists the same 780 score and no published income, and is largely invitation-based. In practice you may not be able to apply for Reserve at all, so check with Axis whether you are eligible.
Who should pick which
Choose Axis Reserve if:
- You will use the Club ITC Culinaire, Accorplus and Club Marriott Asia Pacific memberships
- You play golf and want up to 50 rounds a year
- You spend around ₹35 lakh a year or more
- You want a nil cash-withdrawal fee and guest lounge access
Choose ICICI Emeralde if:
- You want points to be the main return on your spending
- Your annual spend is ₹10 lakh to ₹35 lakh
- You want the ₹3 crore air accident cover and Priority Pass
- You would rather pay ₹12,000 than ₹50,000 a year
Verdict
On points alone, ICICI Emeralde is clearly ahead, and its fee is easier to waive. Axis Reserve is for people who value the memberships, golf and concierge enough to carry a ₹50,000 fee, and who can reach ₹35 lakh of spend to waive it. If you are not sure you will use those extras, Emeralde is the safer pick.
