Best Credit Cards for Couples in India 2026: Share and Save

There's no single best card for couples. The winning approach is to pool shared spending on one high-earning card and give your partner an add-on card. Pick a card whose lounge access covers add-ons, or whose bonus categories match what you spend on together, like dining, groceries, travel and movies. If you both earn, it can make more sense to hold two different cards that cover different categories.

Here's how to choose, and the cards that fit each kind of couple.

Add-on card or two separate cards?

One account with an add-on

  • All spending counts towards one fee waiver and one set of milestones, so you reach them sooner.
  • Rewards collect in one place.
  • Only the primary cardholder builds credit history. The primary is also generally responsible for the whole bill. Our guide to add-on card liability explains the details.

Two separate cards

  • Both partners build their own credit history.
  • You can cover more categories, for example one dining card and one travel card.
  • Two fees, and spending is split, so each card is less likely to hit its waiver.

A common middle ground: one partner holds the main rewards card with an add-on for the other, and the other partner holds a free card in their own name to keep building credit. Our add-on credit cards guide covers how supplementary cards work.

For couples who travel: lounge access that covers both of you

HDFC Diners Club Black

HDFC Diners Club Black gives unlimited domestic lounge access for primary and add-on cardholders, plus unlimited international access at 1,300+ lounges through Priority Pass. Points earn 3.33% at ₹1 a point, and dining gets accelerated rewards. You also get 6 golf games or lessons a quarter, and memberships (Club Marriott, Amazon Prime, Swiggy One) once you spend ₹1.5 lakh in the first 90 days. The ₹10,000 fee is waived at ₹8 lakh. Our Diners Club Black review has the full picture.

Yes Bank Marquee

Yes Bank Marquee offers 24 domestic lounge visits a year for primary and add-on cardholders and unlimited international visits through Priority Pass. Its 1% forex markup is excellent for trips abroad. Check whether the 24 visits are a shared pool or per cardholder before you rely on them.

Axis Atlas

Axis Atlas suits couples saving up for flights and hotels. It earns 5% in EDGE Miles on travel booked through Travel EDGE and 2% elsewhere, and miles transfer to more than 20 airline and hotel partners. Lounge access starts at 8 domestic and 4 international visits a year and grows with spend tiers. BestCard's data doesn't say whether add-ons share these visits, so check with Axis.

Lounge maths: a couple taking 6 domestic round trips a year needs 24 lounge visits (12 departures × 2 people). A card with 8 visits for the primary cardholder only leaves you paying for 16 entries. Our article on the hidden costs of guest and add-on lounge entries explains what those cost.

For couples who eat in, eat out and watch films

HSBC Live+

HSBC Live+ pays 10% on dining and food delivery, 10% on groceries, 10% on utilities and 10% on online shopping, with each bucket capped at ₹1,000 a month. For a household that puts shared spending on one card, that's hard to beat.

Worked example: ₹8,000 a month on dining and ₹12,000 on groceries.

  • Dining: ₹8,000 × 10% = ₹800
  • Groceries: ₹12,000 × 10% = ₹1,200, capped at ₹1,000
  • ₹1,800 a month, or ₹21,600 a year

The same ₹20,000 split across two basic 1% cards earns ₹200 a month. Put on one card, it also adds up to ₹2.4 lakh a year, which clears the ₹2 lakh fee waiver.

SBI Elite

SBI Elite earns 2.5% on dining and groceries, gives BookMyShow buy-one-get-one movie tickets, and includes 8 domestic and 6 international lounge visits. It's a solid all-round pick for couples with a moderate budget. The welcome e-gift voucher is worth ₹5,000. See our SBI Elite review.

Swiggy HDFC

If you order in most nights, Swiggy HDFC pays 10% on Swiggy (capped at ₹1,500 a month) and 5% on other online spends (separately capped at ₹1,500). At ₹500 a year, it makes a good cheap second card for whichever partner orders food.

How to choose as a couple

  1. List your shared spending (dining, groceries, travel, bills) and who pays for what.
  2. Decide on an add-on or separate cards based on whether both of you need to build credit.
  3. Check add-on lounge rules. Many cards cover only the primary cardholder.
  4. Pool spending on one card if that gets you past a fee waiver or milestone.
  5. Pay the full bill every month. Shared cards make overspending easy, and interest wipes out rewards quickly.

Before you apply

Fees, caps and lounge terms here come from BestCard's latest card data. Issuers revise add-on and lounge rules often, so confirm with the bank before you apply. To compare two cards side by side, use our comparison tool, or let the card matcher suggest a combination for your household.

Frequently asked questions

Should couples get an add-on card or two separate credit cards?

An add-on pools spending on one account, so you hit fee waivers and milestones faster, but only the primary holder builds credit history. If both partners earn, two separate cards that cover different categories usually earn more and build both credit files.

Which credit cards give lounge access to add-on cardholders?

In BestCard's data, HDFC Diners Club Black, HDFC Infinia and Yes Bank Marquee are among the cards that extend lounge access to add-on cardholders. Many mid-range cards cover only the primary cardholder.

What's the best credit card for couples who eat out a lot?

HSBC Live+ pays 10% on dining and on groceries, each capped at ₹1,000 a month. For food delivery, the Swiggy HDFC card pays 10% on Swiggy, capped at ₹1,500 a month.

Is an add-on cardholder liable for the bill?

Generally the primary cardholder is responsible for all spending on the account, including the add-on card. Check the issuer's terms for the details.
