Best Credit Cards for Family Travel in India 2026
16 September 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

The best credit card for family travel is one that gets everyone into the lounge, not just you. That means add-on or guest lounge access first, then a low forex markup for trips abroad, then travel insurance that actually covers a delayed flight or lost bag. Below are six cards from BestCard's data that do this well at different price points.
What matters when you travel as a family
A solo traveller only has to think about one lounge entry. A family of four at an airport turns lounge access into a real number: if your card covers only the primary cardholder, everyone else pays per visit. So the order of priorities for families is a little different from the usual travel card checklist.
- Add-on and guest lounge access. Look for the words "primary and add-on cardholders" or a stated number of guest visits. Our guide to add-on credit cards explains how supplementary cards work.
- Spend conditions. Many lounge benefits now unlock only after a spend threshold in the previous month or quarter. Plan big family bookings so they land in the right quarter.
- Forex markup. International holidays mean large foreign-currency bills for hotels, food and tickets. The difference between 3.5% and 1% on ₹2 lakh is ₹5,000.
- Insurance and travel extras. Trip delay, baggage loss and overseas medical cover matter more when three or four people's plans depend on one booking.
The shortlist
HDFC Diners Club Black (Metal Edition)
HDFC Diners Club Black is the strongest all-round family pick for frequent flyers. It gives unlimited complimentary domestic lounge access to both primary and add-on cardholders, plus unlimited access to 1,300+ international lounges via Priority Pass. The joining and annual fee is ₹10,000, waived on ₹8 lakh of annual spend. Base rewards are 3.33% at a point value of ₹1, and forex markup is 2%. The catch is eligibility at ₹2.5 lakh monthly income, and the Diners Club network has thinner acceptance abroad, so carry a Visa or Mastercard backup. Union Bank NEXTERIA
Union Bank NEXTERIA is unusual because it spells out family access: unlimited lounge visits for the primary cardholder plus 2 family visits per quarter, both domestic and international, in what Union Bank calls a 1+3 format. The fee is ₹12,499, waived on ₹8 lakh of spend, and minimum income is ₹1 lakh a month. Rewards are thin outside the 8% online shopping category (capped at ₹10,000 a month), and forex markup is 2.5%. This is a lounge card first and a rewards card second.
Yes Bank Marquee
Yes Bank Marquee gives 24 complimentary domestic lounge visits a year that work for both primary and add-on cardholders, plus unlimited international visits via Priority Pass. Forex markup is just 1%, base rewards are 3% at 30 paise a point, and travel earns 6%. It also includes overseas travel insurance covering flight delay, baggage loss and medical emergencies. The joining fee is ₹9,999 and the annual fee ₹4,999 (waived on ₹10 lakh). The income bar is ₹2 lakh a month and access is largely invite-based.

Axis Horizon
Axis Horizon has one of the biggest lounge allowances at its price. The Visa variant gives up to 8 domestic visits a quarter (32 a year) and 2 international visits a quarter via Priority Pass. Those visits are useful when a family flies a few times a year and the primary cardholder is the one swiping. The fee is ₹3,000, waived on ₹3.5 lakh of spend. Travel bookings earn 5% in EDGE Miles, with 1:1 transfers to partners like KrisFlyer and Marriott Bonvoy. The 3.5% forex markup makes it a domestic-trip card rather than one for spending abroad. See the card page for full terms.
IDFC FIRST Ashva
For international family holidays, IDFC FIRST Ashva brings 0% forex markup together with trip cancellation cover of up to ₹25,000, twice a year. It also gives 4 domestic and 2 international airport lounge visits per quarter plus 4 railway lounge visits per quarter. The annual fee is ₹2,999 with no spend waiver, and minimum income is ₹1 lakh a month. Points are worth 25 paise (40 paise on travel via IDFC FIRST's portal), so rewards are modest. You pick this one for the zero markup and the cancellation cover.
Canara Bank MasterCard World
If you want family lounge access without paying a fee, Canara Bank MasterCard World is lifetime free and includes 3 self plus 2 guest domestic lounge visits per quarter, and 2 self plus 2 guest international visits a year via Mastercard LoungeKey. Insurance includes air accident cover of ₹8 lakh for self and ₹4 lakh for spouse, and baggage protection up to ₹25,000. Forex markup is 3% and rewards are a basic 0.5%, so treat it as a lounge and insurance card. Minimum income is ₹83,334 a month.
Summary table
| Card | Annual fee | Family lounge access | Forex markup | Min income/month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HDFC Diners Club Black | ₹10,000 | Unlimited domestic for primary + add-on; unlimited intl via Priority Pass | 2% | ₹2,50,000 |
| Union Bank NEXTERIA | ₹12,499 | Primary unlimited + 2 family visits/quarter | 2.5% | ₹1,00,000 |
| Yes Bank Marquee | ₹4,999 (₹9,999 joining) | 24 domestic/year for primary + add-on | 1% | ₹2,00,000 |

| IDFC FIRST Ashva | ₹2,999 | 4 domestic + 2 intl/quarter (primary) | 0% | ₹1,00,000 |
| Canara MasterCard World | Nil | 3 self + 2 guest domestic/quarter | 3% | ₹83,334 |
These figures reflect BestCard's latest card data. Issuers change lounge rules often, so verify the current terms on the issuer's site before you apply.
How to choose
Start with how your family flies. If you travel domestically four or more times a year as a group, add-on lounge access matters most, and HDFC Diners Club Black or Yes Bank Marquee will save the most money. If you take one big international trip a year, forex markup and cancellation cover outweigh lounge counts, which favours IDFC FIRST Ashva. For more zero-markup options, see our list of the best zero forex markup credit cards.
Then check the fine print on spend triggers. A card that needs ₹60,000 or ₹75,000 of spend in the previous quarter can leave you without lounge access on the exact trip you planned. Put large bills like school fees or insurance (where they earn) in the quarter before you fly.
Finally, be honest about income eligibility. Several of these cards need ₹2 lakh or more a month. If you're below that, Union Bank NEXTERIA, Axis Horizon and Canara MasterCard World are realistic starting points.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the add-on card gets the same lounge benefit as the primary. Often it doesn't.
- Paying for a high-fee lounge card when the family flies once a year. One trip's lounge entries rarely beat a ₹10,000 fee.
- Using a 3.5% markup card abroad when a 0% or 1% card is in your wallet.

Frequently asked questions
Which credit card gives free lounge access to family members in India?
Cards that extend lounge access to add-on cardholders or include guest visits work best. HDFC Diners Club Black gives unlimited domestic lounge access to primary and add-on cardholders, while Union Bank NEXTERIA adds 2 family visits a quarter on top of the primary cardholder's unlimited access.
Do add-on cardholders get lounge access automatically?
Not always. Many cards limit lounge access to the primary cardholder, so check whether the benefit says primary and add-on cardholders before you count on it for a family trip.
Is a zero forex markup card useful for a family holiday abroad?
Yes. A family trip abroad can easily run into lakhs of rupees of foreign spend, and a 3.5% markup on ₹2 lakh is ₹7,000 before GST. A zero or low markup card cuts that cost directly.
Can I use a lifetime-free card for family lounge access?
Some lifetime-free cards include guest visits. Canara Bank MasterCard World Credit Card, for example, offers 3 self plus 2 guest domestic visits a quarter with no joining or annual fee.
