Best Credit Cards for Groceries in India (2026 Guide)
12 November 2025 · BestCard Editorial Team

Groceries are one of the few spending categories that never really shrinks — every household runs through it every month, which makes it one of the highest-value categories to optimize with the right credit card. A card that returns even 3-5% on grocery spend can pay for itself several times over in a year, provided it doesn't cap out too fast or lock the benefit behind a subscription you don't already have.
What to look for in a grocery card
Before comparing specific cards, know the three levers that actually decide how much you'll earn:
- Reward rate on the grocery MCC: Some cards pay their best rate only on specific merchant category codes used by supermarkets, not general retail.
- Monthly or per-transaction caps: A high headline rate is meaningless if it caps out after ₹5,000-10,000 of spend a month.
- Online vs offline: Cards optimized for quick-commerce and online grocery apps (Blinkit, Zepto, BigBasket) may not reward the same at a physical Big Bazaar or local supermarket.
Flat cashback cards
Flat-rate cashback cards are the easiest to use for groceries because there's no need to track which merchant qualifies — every rupee earns the same rate whether you're at a large chain or a neighborhood store. These are best if your grocery spending is spread across multiple types of stores rather than concentrated on one app or chain.
Category-accelerated cards
If most of your grocery spend happens through one or two specific platforms, a card that pays an accelerated rate on that specific merchant will usually beat a flat cashback card, sometimes by 2-3x. The trade-off is that the accelerated rate applies only to that platform, so you need a secondary card for everything else.
Co-branded supermarket cards
A handful of issuers partner directly with large supermarket chains to offer store-specific reward cards. These make sense only if you're a loyal, high-frequency shopper at that specific chain — the rewards usually come back as store credit or vouchers rather than cash, which reduces flexibility.
How to pick
If you shop across multiple stores and want simplicity, go with a flat cashback card. If 70%+ of your grocery spend is concentrated on one platform, an accelerated category card will out-earn it. Either way, check the monthly cap against your actual average grocery bill before assuming the headline rate applies to your full spend.
