Best Credit Cards for Startup Founders in India
8 March 2025 · BestCard Editorial Team

In the first year or two of a startup, most founders are paying for AWS bills, SaaS subscriptions, coworking desks, and the odd flight to meet an investor — all on a personal card, because a company card program is still months away. The right card for this phase looks different from what you'd pick once the company has its own finance team.
What matters most early on
Foreign currency spend is the big one — a founder paying for Figma, Notion, or a US-based cloud bill needs a card with a low forex markup, since the standard 3.5% many cards charge adds up fast across a dozen recurring SaaS charges. A card built for international spending, or one with a lower markup tier, saves real money here month over month.
Cashback also tends to beat point-based rewards for founders, since points require redemption effort you won't have time for, while cashback simply reduces the number on the statement. SBI Card and similar cashback-forward cards are a reasonable default if you're not chasing travel perks yet.
Separating personal and company spend
Even before incorporating a proper card program, it helps to run all startup spending through one dedicated card rather than mixing it with personal purchases — makes bookkeeping at tax time dramatically simpler, and gives you a clean expense trail if you ever raise from an investor who asks for financial hygiene.
When to graduate to a business card
Once the company has steady revenue or a funding round in the bank, moving to an actual business card (see our business credit cards guide) makes more sense — you'll get GST-compliant statements and can start separating founder spend from company spend cleanly.
