HDFC Shoppers Stop Black Credit Card Review: Worth ₹4,500?
12 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

The HDFC Shoppers Stop Black Credit Card is a premium retail co-brand. It pays 7% value-back on Shoppers Stop spends, gives you Shoppers Stop's top Black loyalty tier, and adds domestic and international lounge access, all for ₹4,500 a year. If Shoppers Stop is where you buy most of your clothes, cosmetics and gifts, it can pay for itself several times over. If you shop there a few times a year, it is an expensive way to earn vouchers.
Who this card is for
This card makes sense for one type of person: someone who already spends a meaningful amount at Shoppers Stop (in-store or online) and would value the Black membership tier anyway. Families who do most of their festive and wardrobe shopping there, or people who buy premium beauty brands from Shoppers Stop counters, are the natural fit.
It is not a general-purpose rewards card. The rewards are mostly locked to one retailer, and the forex markup is the standard 3.5%, so it won't help much on travel or foreign spends beyond the lounge visits.
Fees and waiver
| Feature | HDFC Shoppers Stop Black |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹4,500 + GST |
| Annual fee | ₹4,500 + GST |
| Fee waiver | Spend ₹3,00,000 in a year |
| Base reward rate | 2% |
| Shoppers Stop rate | 7% value-back |
| Forex markup | 3.5% |
| Lounge access | Domestic and international (complimentary) |
| Fuel surcharge | 1% waived on ₹400 to ₹1,00,000, capped at ₹1,000 per cycle |
| Minimum income | ₹75,000 per month |
The ₹3 lakh waiver works out to ₹25,000 a month. If this becomes your main card, that is reachable for many households. If it sits in your wallet only for Shoppers Stop trips, you will likely pay the fee every year, so the maths below needs to work without the waiver.
How the rewards work
The headline is 7% value-back on Shoppers Stop purchases, which comes back as rewards redeemable against Shoppers Stop vouchers. Everything else earns at the 2% base rate in BestCard's data. That base rate is decent for a co-brand, but remember the value is best realised at Shoppers Stop itself, so treat the whole card as a Shoppers Stop savings tool.
You also get a complimentary Shoppers Stop Black membership on activation. That tier carries its own store-side perks, which matter more if you already shop there often.
Worked example: a regular Shoppers Stop shopper
Say you spend ₹12,000 a month at Shoppers Stop and put another ₹18,000 of everyday spends on the card.
- Shoppers Stop: ₹12,000 × 7% = ₹840 a month
- Other spends: ₹18,000 × 2% = ₹360 a month
- Monthly value: ₹1,200, or ₹14,400 a year
Your annual spend is ₹3,60,000, which crosses the ₹3 lakh waiver, so the renewal fee is gone. Even in the first year, when you pay the ₹4,500 joining fee plus GST, you are well ahead.
Worked example: an occasional shopper
Now say you spend ₹3,000 a month at Shoppers Stop and ₹7,000 elsewhere on the card.
- Shoppers Stop: ₹3,000 × 7% = ₹210 a month
- Other spends: ₹7,000 × 2% = ₹140 a month
- Annual value: ₹4,200
Annual spend is ₹1,20,000, nowhere near the waiver. You pay ₹4,500 plus GST to earn about ₹4,200 in vouchers. That is a loss, and the lounge visits are the only thing keeping it close.

Lounge, fuel and other benefits
The card includes complimentary domestic and international airport lounge access. BestCard's data does not pin down a fixed visit count, and HDFC has been tightening lounge rules across its range, so check the current allotment and whether a quarterly spend condition applies before counting on it. Our explainer on lounge spend thresholds covers how these conditions usually work.
The fuel surcharge waiver is generous for a retail card: 1% waived on transactions between ₹400 and ₹1,00,000, capped at ₹1,000 per statement cycle. If you fill up a car regularly, that is a small but real saving.
Figures here reflect BestCard's latest card data, but HDFC does revise reward and lounge terms, so verify on the HDFC site before you apply.
Pros and cons
Pros
- 7% value-back on Shoppers Stop is one of the highest single-retailer rates in the market
- Complimentary Shoppers Stop Black membership from day one
- Domestic and international lounge access, unusual on a retail co-brand
- Generous fuel surcharge waiver, capped at ₹1,000 per cycle
- Fee waiver at ₹3 lakh is achievable if you use it as a main card
Cons

- Reward value is mostly tied to Shoppers Stop vouchers
- 3.5% forex markup makes it a poor choice abroad
- ₹75,000 monthly income requirement keeps it out of reach for many
Eligibility
BestCard's data lists a minimum monthly income of ₹75,000. As with any HDFC card, a healthy CIBIL score and clean repayment history help, and existing HDFC customers often find approval easier. If you are not sure you qualify, our minimum salary guide explains how banks assess income.
How it compares
HDFC Shoppers Stop Credit Card: The entry sibling costs ₹299 a year (waived at ₹1 lakh spend) and earns 3% on Shoppers Stop with a 1% base rate. If you spend under about ₹8,000 a month at Shoppers Stop and don't care about lounges, this is the smarter pick.
Axis Bank Shoppers Stop Credit Card: A ₹500 card (waived at ₹1 lakh) built on the old Citi First Citizen programme, with 10X points on Shoppers Stop and private-label purchases. Cheaper to hold, but without the Black tier or lounge access.
HDFC Regalia Gold: If what you actually want is lounge access and broad rewards, Regalia Gold (₹2,500, waived at ₹4 lakh) gives 6 international lounge visits a year via Priority Pass, 5X points at Myntra, Nykaa and Reliance Digital, and milestone flight vouchers. Verdict
The HDFC Shoppers Stop Black card is excellent at one thing. If you spend ₹10,000 or more a month at Shoppers Stop, the 7% value-back plus the Black membership and lounge access make it one of the better retail co-brands in India, and the ₹3 lakh waiver is easy to hit. Below that level, the cheaper HDFC Shoppers Stop card or a general cashback card will serve you better.
