The Swiggy HDFC Bank Card and the Flipkart Axis Bank Card are both cheap co-branded cashback cards, but each is tied to a different app. Swiggy HDFC is the better pick for most people who order food or groceries on Swiggy and shop across many websites, because it pays 10% on Swiggy and 5% on other online spends. Flipkart Axis is better for heavy Flipkart and Myntra shoppers, since its 5% there is uncapped and it pays 1.5% on everything else. Which card wins depends mostly on how much you spend on Flipkart each month.

How the rewards actually work

Swiggy HDFC

The Swiggy HDFC Bank Card pays 10% on the whole Swiggy app: food delivery, Instamart, Dineout and genie. That 10% is capped at ₹1,500 a month, which takes ₹15,000 of Swiggy spend to reach. Other online shopping earns 5%, also capped at ₹1,500 a month. Everything else earns 1%. Fuel, rent, wallet loads, EMI and jewellery earn nothing. New cardholders get a 3-month Swiggy One membership.

Flipkart Axis

The Flipkart Axis Bank Card pays 5% on Flipkart and Myntra with no monthly cap. Preferred partners, including Swiggy, Uber, PVR and Cleartrip, earn 4%. Everything else earns a flat 1.5%, which is higher than most entry cards. Cashback is credited to your statement automatically.

Worked example 1: ₹20,000 a month

Split: ₹6,000 Swiggy, ₹5,000 Flipkart and Myntra, ₹3,000 other online, ₹6,000 offline.

Swiggy HDFC

  • Swiggy: 10% × ₹6,000 = ₹600
  • Online (Flipkart, Myntra and others): 5% × ₹8,000 = ₹400
  • Offline: 1% × ₹6,000 = ₹60
  • Total: ₹1,060 a month, ₹12,720 a year
  • Annual spend ₹2.4 lakh, so the fee is waived

Flipkart Axis

  • Flipkart and Myntra: 5% × ₹5,000 = ₹250
  • Swiggy: 4% × ₹6,000 = ₹240
  • Other online and offline: 1.5% × ₹9,000 = ₹135
  • Total: ₹625 a month, ₹7,500 a year
  • ₹2.4 lakh is below ₹3.5 lakh, so you pay ₹500, leaving ₹7,000

Swiggy HDFC earns about ₹5,700 more at this spend.

Worked example 2: ₹60,000 a month

Split: ₹4,000 Swiggy, ₹40,000 Flipkart and Myntra, ₹6,000 other online, ₹10,000 offline.

Swiggy HDFC

  • Swiggy: 10% × ₹4,000 = ₹400
  • Online: 5% × ₹46,000 = ₹2,300, capped at ₹1,500
  • Offline: 1% × ₹10,000 = ₹100
  • Total: ₹2,000 a month, ₹24,000 a year

Flipkart Axis

  • Flipkart and Myntra: 5% × ₹40,000 = ₹2,000
  • Swiggy: 4% × ₹4,000 = ₹160
  • Other online and offline: 1.5% × ₹16,000 = ₹240
  • Total: ₹2,400 a month, ₹28,800 a year

Both fees are waived at ₹7.2 lakh a year. Flipkart Axis wins by ₹4,800 because Swiggy HDFC's ₹1,500 online cap stops counting after ₹30,000 of online spend. As a rough rule, once your Flipkart and Myntra spend goes above ₹30,000 a month, Flipkart Axis pulls ahead.

Lounge access and travel

Neither is a travel card. Flipkart Axis lists 4 complimentary domestic lounge visits a year, one per quarter, and pays 4% on Uber and Cleartrip. Swiggy HDFC has no lounge access. Both charge a 3.5% forex markup, so neither should be used abroad. See our best travel credit cards with lounge access if travel matters to you.

Redemption: nothing to manage on either

Both cards credit cashback straight to the statement, so there are no points to track or redeem and no redemption fee. On Flipkart Axis, BestCard's data says cashback is credited within 5 days. The real difference is the caps: Swiggy HDFC needs you to watch two ₹1,500 monthly limits, while Flipkart Axis has none. Our guide on how credit card cashback actually works explains why caps matter more than headline rates.

Fees and waivers

Both cards charge ₹500 to join and ₹500 a year. Axis sometimes runs first-year-free offers on Flipkart Axis, so check the current offer when you apply. Swiggy HDFC is easier to keep free, with a ₹2 lakh waiver against ₹3.5 lakh. If you spend between ₹2 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh a year, you pay only on Flipkart Axis. Both cards need ₹15,000 of monthly income.

Who should pick which

Choose Swiggy HDFC if:

  • You spend ₹3,000 or more a month on Swiggy, Instamart or Dineout
  • Your online shopping is spread across many sites, not just Flipkart
  • Your annual spend is between ₹2 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh
  • You don't need lounge access

Choose Flipkart Axis if:

  • You spend ₹30,000 or more a month on Flipkart and Myntra, or buy big-ticket items there
  • You use Uber, PVR or Cleartrip regularly
  • You want 1.5% on offline spends instead of 1%
  • You want a few domestic lounge visits a year

Verdict

For most people who order in often and shop online across several sites, the Swiggy HDFC card earns more, as long as you keep in mind its two ₹1,500 monthly caps. Flipkart Axis is the better card once Flipkart and Myntra dominate your spending, and it beats Swiggy HDFC on offline spend. Many people hold both: Swiggy HDFC for Swiggy and general online spend up to its cap, Flipkart Axis for Flipkart, Myntra and everything offline.
