The AU Bank Vetta is a mid-priced lifestyle card that earns its ₹2,999 fee through lounge access and quarterly milestones, not through its reward rate. If you spend ₹50,000 or more a quarter and want domestic, international and railway lounges on one card, it can work. If you want strong everyday rewards, there are better options at the same price.

Who the Vetta is for

AU Small Finance Bank positions the Vetta between its fee-free LIT card and the costlier Zenith range. The target customer is a salaried professional who travels a few times a year, takes the occasional train journey, and spends steadily enough to clear quarterly targets. The listed minimum income is about ₹40,000 a month, which is lower than most cards that bundle a Priority Pass.

It is not a card for people who want to maximise cashback, and it is not a frequent flyer's card either. One airport visit of each type per quarter covers a handful of trips a year, not a monthly commute.

Fees and fee waiver

Item AU Bank Vetta
Joining fee ₹2,999 + GST
Annual fee ₹2,999 + GST
Fee waiver ₹1,50,000 spend in the previous year
Forex markup 3.49% (from 1 Oct 2026)
Minimum income ₹40,000 a month
Network Visa

The ₹1.5 lakh waiver works out to ₹12,500 a month, which is reachable if this becomes your main card. GST at 18% applies to the fee, so an unwaived year actually costs about ₹3,539.

Reward structure

The Vetta earns reward points worth 25 paise each. In effective terms that is:

  • 0.5% on most spends (the base rate)
  • 1% on groceries and utilities
  • 500 bonus points when you spend ₹50,000 in a quarter, and another 1,000 points at ₹1 lakh in the quarter
  • A ₹1,000 voucher on ₹2.5 lakh of annual spend

The base and category rates are low. The milestones are where the card claws back value, so how much you spend each quarter matters more than what you spend on.

Worked example: ₹40,000 a month

Say you put ₹40,000 a month on the card: ₹10,000 on groceries and utility bills and ₹30,000 on everything else.

  • Groceries and utilities: ₹10,000 × 1% = ₹100 a month
  • Other spends: ₹30,000 × 0.5% = ₹150 a month
  • Base earn: ₹250 a month, or ₹3,000 a year
  • Quarterly spend is ₹1.2 lakh, which clears both milestones: 1,500 points × ₹0.25 = ₹375 a quarter, or ₹1,500 a year
  • Annual spend is ₹4.8 lakh, so you also get the ₹1,000 voucher

That totals roughly ₹5,500 a year, and the fee is waived because you cleared ₹1.5 lakh. You also keep every lounge visit unlocked. On ₹4.8 lakh of spend, that is about a 1.15% return before counting the lounges.

Worked example: ₹15,000 a month

At ₹15,000 a month (₹3,000 on groceries and utilities, ₹12,000 elsewhere):

  • ₹3,000 × 1% = ₹30, plus ₹12,000 × 0.5% = ₹60, so ₹90 a month or ₹1,080 a year
  • Quarterly spend of ₹45,000 misses the first milestone
  • Annual spend of ₹1.8 lakh clears the fee waiver but not the voucher

You get about ₹1,080 a year, and you lose the domestic airport lounge because you never hit ₹50,000 in a quarter. At this level a lifetime-free card would serve you better.

Lounge, travel and other benefits

Lounge access is the Vetta's real selling point:

  • Domestic airport: 1 complimentary visit per quarter, unlocked by ₹50,000 of spend in the previous quarter (from April 2026)
  • International: 1 complimentary visit per quarter via Priority Pass
  • Railway: 2 complimentary visits per quarter

That adds up to as many as 4 domestic airport, 4 international and 8 railway visits a year. Railway lounges are a nice touch you rarely see at this price; our railway lounge guide covers where they are actually useful. If you want to understand how spend gates like the ₹50,000 rule work across banks, read quarterly spend triggers for lounge perks.

The card also carries a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000, capped at ₹100 per statement month.

The 3.49% forex markup, effective 1 October 2026, makes the Vetta a poor card for spending abroad, even though it gets you into the lounge before you fly. Use a low-markup card for the trip itself.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Domestic, international (Priority Pass) and railway lounges on a single card
  • Quarterly milestones reward steady spending
  • ₹2,999 is a reasonable fee for a Priority Pass-linked card
  • Achievable ₹1.5 lakh fee waiver

Cons

  • Base rate of 0.5% and category rate of 1% are weak
  • Domestic airport lounge needs ₹50,000 of spend in the previous quarter
  • 3.49% forex markup from 1 October 2026
  • Visit counts are modest for frequent travellers

Eligibility

BestCard's data lists a minimum monthly income of about ₹40,000. Like most issuers, AU Bank also looks at your CIBIL score, existing debt and banking relationship. If you already hold an AU savings account or FD, approval tends to be smoother.

How the Vetta compares

AU Bank Zenith+ costs ₹4,999 (waived at ₹8 lakh) but gives 16 domestic and 16 international lounge visits a year, 2% on dining and travel, and a 0.99% forex markup. It needs about ₹80,000 a month in income. If you travel abroad even once a year and qualify, it is the stronger AU card. See our Zenith+ review.

SBI Card PRIME also costs ₹2,999 (waived at ₹3 lakh) and gives 4 international Priority Pass visits a year, capped at 2 a quarter, plus accelerated points on dining and groceries. If your spending leans towards dining and groceries, apply for SBI Card PRIME through the issuer.

Axis Bank Privilege is cheaper at ₹1,500 (waived at ₹5 lakh) and gives 2 domestic lounge visits per quarter with no spend condition, but no international access. For a domestic-only traveller it is better value. You can apply for Axis Privilege here.

Verdict

The AU Vetta is a reasonable lounge card for someone who spends ₹50,000 or more a quarter and values one international and two railway lounge visits every three months. At that spend level the fee is waived and the milestones lift your effective return to just above 1%. Below that, you pay for perks you can't unlock. Figures here reflect BestCard's latest card data; AU Bank changes terms often (the forex markup and lounge gate both changed in 2026), so verify on the issuer site before applying.
