The Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card is a genuine IPL co-brand: ₹500 a year, 10 reward points per ₹100 on CSK match days, 25% off movie tickets, and fan perks like meet-and-greets and match tickets. As a rewards card it is ordinary. As a ₹500 card for a die-hard CSK fan who also wants UPI-linked RuPay credit, it is a reasonable buy.

Who this card is for

Buy this card if you follow CSK closely, would genuinely value a shot at player meet-and-greets or home match tickets, and want a cheap RuPay card for everyday UPI payments. It also suits someone who watches movies regularly and would use the BookMyShow and INOX discount.

If you are not a CSK fan, the match-day accelerator and fan perks have no value to you, and other ₹500 cards return more on everyday spending.

Fees and waiver

Feature Chennai Super Kings ICICI Bank Credit Card
Network RuPay
Joining fee ₹500 + GST
Annual fee ₹500 + GST
Fee waiver Spend ₹1,50,000 in a year
Regular reward rate 2 points per ₹100
CSK match-day rate 10 points per ₹100
Point value About 25 paise per point
Welcome and renewal gift 2,000 reward points
Domestic lounge 1 visit per quarter on ₹75,000 quarterly spend
Movies 25% off on BookMyShow and INOX
Forex markup 3.5%
Minimum income ₹25,000 per month

The ₹1.5 lakh waiver works out to ₹12,500 a month, which is easy if you use it as a primary UPI card.

How the rewards work

This is where the marketing and the maths diverge. The card earns 2 ICICI reward points per ₹100, which is sometimes quoted as a "2% rate". It isn't. BestCard's data values ICICI points at about 25 paise each, so 2 points per ₹100 is worth ₹0.50, an effective return of about 0.5%.

On CSK match days the rate jumps to 10 points per ₹100, worth about ₹2.50, or roughly 2.5%. That is decent, but it only applies on match days during the IPL season, which is a few weeks a year.

The 2,000 points you get on joining and each renewal are worth about ₹500 at the same valuation, which roughly offsets the fee.

Worked example

Say you spend ₹15,000 a month on the card, and during the two months of IPL you shift ₹8,000 of spend onto match days.

  • Regular months (10 months): ₹15,000 earns 300 points a month, so 3,000 points
  • IPL months (2 months): ₹8,000 on match days earns 800 points, plus ₹7,000 on other days earns 140 points, so 940 points a month, or 1,880 points
  • Renewal gift: 2,000 points
  • Total: 6,880 points, worth about ₹1,720 at 25 paise each

Your annual spend is ₹1,80,000, so the ₹500 fee is waived. Net value is about ₹1,720, plus whatever you save on movies.

Compare that with a flat-rate cashback card that pays 1.5% on the same ₹1,80,000: ₹2,700. The CSK card's real appeal is the fan experiences, not the points.

Movies, lounge and fan perks

Movies: 25% off on BookMyShow and INOX tickets. If you watch two movies a month with a companion, this can add up to more than the points. Check the current per-transaction cap with ICICI. Our movie tickets card guide lists stronger options if movies are your main use.

Lounge: one complimentary domestic airport lounge visit per quarter for the primary cardholder, but only after ₹75,000 of spend in that quarter. That's ₹25,000 a month, so many cardholders won't unlock it.

CSK perks: player meet-and-greets, autographed memorabilia and complimentary tickets to a CSK home match. These are typically limited and allotted through contests or spend-based criteria, so treat them as a bonus rather than a guarantee.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Real IPL franchise co-brand with fan-exclusive experiences
  • 10 points per ₹100 on CSK match days
  • 25% off BookMyShow and INOX tickets
  • RuPay network, so it works on UPI
  • Low ₹500 fee, waived at ₹1.5 lakh spend

Cons

  • Effective return on regular spends is only about 0.5%
  • Match-day accelerator is useless outside the IPL season
  • Lounge visit needs ₹75,000 of spend in the quarter
  • 3.5% forex markup
  • Fan perks are limited and not guaranteed

Eligibility

BestCard's data lists a minimum monthly income of ₹25,000. ICICI will also check your credit score. Existing ICICI customers may see a pre-approved offer in the iMobile app.

How it compares

ICICI Coral: Same ₹500 fee, waived at ₹1.5 lakh. Its points rate in our data is low too, so it's not a big upgrade on rewards; pick Coral only if you want ICICI's standard dining and movie programme without the CSK theme.

Axis ACE: ₹499 a year, waived at ₹2 lakh, also on RuPay. It pays 2% cashback on general spends, 4% on online shopping and 5% on utility bills (capped at ₹500 a month). On ₹1,80,000 of annual spend it would return roughly ₹3,600 at the base rate alone. See our Axis ACE review, or apply for Axis ACE if it suits you better.

CUB CSK Master World: City Union Bank's top CSK card is free for the first year, then ₹4,000 (waived at ₹5 lakh), with zero forex markup and points worth ₹1 each. It suits higher spenders who want a CSK card that also works abroad.

Verdict

The ICICI CSK card is a fan card first. At ₹500 with an easy waiver, it is cheap to hold, the RuPay network makes it useful on UPI, and the movie discount has real value. But at about 0.5% on regular spends, it should not be your main rewards card. Get it for CSK, keep a stronger cashback card for everything else.
