The IndusInd Avios Visa Infinite is a good card for the first year, mostly because of its welcome bonus. After that, it's an average card that suits people who fly Qatar Airways or British Airways. You pay ₹10,000 to join, get 20,000 Avios, and keep a 1.5% forex markup and quarterly lounge access. On everyday spending, though, its earn rate trails other travel cards at the same price.

Who it's for

This is one of the few Indian cards that earns Avios directly. Avios is the currency shared by British Airways Executive Club and Qatar Airways Privilege Club. It suits:

  • Travellers who fly Qatar Airways through Doha, or British Airways to the UK
  • People who want to save Avios for a specific long-haul redemption
  • High earners (₹2 lakh a month minimum in our data) who also want low forex costs abroad

If you don't fly either airline, you'll get more from a card with transferable points.

You choose British Airways or Qatar Airways when you apply. Both programmes use Avios, but award charts, taxes and partner availability differ, so check which airline you're more likely to redeem on before you choose.

The welcome bonus

With 18% GST, the joining fee is ₹11,800. The 20,000 welcome Avios are worth about ₹20,000 at BestCard's ₹1 valuation, so you're well ahead in year one. The actual value depends on how you redeem. Business-class awards on long routes usually give the best return per Avios. Short economy flights with heavy taxes and surcharges can give much less.

From year two, the 5,000 renewal Avios (about ₹5,000) nearly cover the ₹5,900 renewal fee with GST. Anything you earn from spending is on top of that.

Earning on spends: a worked example

BestCard's data puts the effective return at 0.75% on general spends and 1.25% on travel. Check IndusInd's current terms for excluded categories.

₹1,00,000 a month (₹20,000 travel, ₹80,000 other)

  • Travel: ₹20,000 × 1.25% = ₹250
  • Other: ₹80,000 × 0.75% = ₹600
  • Monthly: ₹850, or ₹10,200 a year
  • Plus 5,000 renewal Avios, minus ₹5,900 renewal fee: net about ₹9,300 a year

₹50,000 a month (₹10,000 travel, ₹40,000 other)

  • Travel: ₹125; other: ₹300
  • Monthly: ₹425, or ₹5,100 a year
  • Net after renewal Avios and fee: about ₹4,200

These numbers aren't bad, but the same spend earns noticeably more on the alternatives below.

Forex, lounges and travel benefits

Forex markup of 1.5%. On ₹1,00,000 of overseas spend, you pay ₹1,500 plus ₹270 GST, or ₹1,770 in total, against ₹4,130 on a typical 3.5% card. That ₹2,360 saving per lakh is one of the card's strongest points if you spend abroad.

Lounges. Two domestic visits per calendar quarter and two international visits per quarter, so 8 of each a year. Up to 10 guest visits a year is a useful extra for couples or families. If you need unlimited access, look elsewhere. Our Priority Pass explainer covers how the international visits work.

Airport services. Fast-track immigration and complimentary meet-and-greet at select international airports. See our meet-and-greet guide for what that usually includes.

Insurance. Overseas medical and travel insurance of US$25,000 and air accident cover of ₹25 lakh.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 20,000 welcome Avios, worth more than the joining fee
  • Choice of British Airways or Qatar Airways programme
  • 1.5% forex markup
  • Guest lounge visits (up to 10 a year)
  • Renewal Avios nearly cover the annual fee

Cons

  • 0.75% base rate is low for a ₹5,000 card
  • No spend-based fee waiver
  • Lounge visits are capped quarterly, not unlimited
  • ₹2 lakh monthly income requirement
  • Avios value drops a lot outside BA and Qatar redemptions

Eligibility

BestCard's data lists ₹2,00,000 minimum monthly income. IndusInd will also look at your credit history and may consider your relationship with the bank. Check the bank's current criteria before applying.

How it compares

Card Annual fee Base / travel rate Forex Lounges (dom / intl)
IndusInd Avios ₹5,000 0.75% / 1.25% 1.5% 8 / 8 a year
SBI Miles Elite ₹4,999 1% / 3% 1.99% 8 / 6 a year
Axis Atlas ₹5,000 2% / 5% 3.5% 8 / 4 a year (Silver)
ICICI Emirates Emeralde ₹10,000 2% / 2% 1.5% Unlimited / unlimited

On the same ₹1,00,000 monthly example:

  • SBI Miles Elite: ₹20,000 × 3% + ₹80,000 × 1% = ₹1,400 a month
  • Axis Atlas: ₹20,000 × 5% + ₹80,000 × 2% = ₹2,600 a month, though its 3.5% markup makes foreign spending expensive
  • IndusInd Avios: ₹850 a month

The ICICI Emirates Emeralde costs twice as much but earns more than twice the base rate, with unlimited lounges and the same 1.5% markup. Our Emirates Emeralde review has the numbers.

Verdict

The IndusInd Avios card is worth getting if you'll redeem Avios on Qatar Airways or British Airways and you spend regularly in foreign currency. The welcome bonus covers year one, and the renewal Avios cover most of the fee after that. If you want a card for everyday spending, SBI Miles Elite and Axis Atlas earn more per rupee. Our co-branded airline card guide and the IndusInd lineup guide cover the wider choice.
