The IndiGo SBI Card ELITE and the IndiGo Axis Bank Premium Credit Card earn exactly the same 7 BluChips per ₹100 on IndiGo and cost almost the same, so the choice comes down to the extras. Axis Premium wins on forex markup (2% vs 3.5%). SBI ELITE wins on lounge visits, flight cancellation and baggage cover, and a lower income requirement. Here's how to decide.

Figures reflect BestCard's latest card data. Airline co-brand terms change often, so check the SBI Card and Axis Bank sites before applying.

Rewards maths

Both cards earn the same way, so for domestic spending the reward maths is identical. BestCard's data treats 7 BluChips per ₹100 as roughly 7% value-back when redeemed on IndiGo flights, seats or baggage.

Example 1: ₹50,000 a month, ₹10,000 on IndiGo

  • IndiGo: ₹10,000 × 7% = ₹700
  • Other spends: ₹40,000 × 1% = ₹400
  • Monthly: ₹1,100 in BluChips, ₹13,200 a year
  • Plus 5,000 welcome BluChips in year one

Same result on both cards. At this spend, you also clear Axis's lounge condition every quarter (₹1.5 lakh in 3 months is well above ₹50,000) and SBI's (₹1.5 lakh a quarter is above ₹1 lakh).

Example 2: add ₹2 lakh of international spending a year

Now say you also spend ₹2,00,000 a year abroad or on foreign websites.

  • SBI ELITE markup: ₹2,00,000 × 3.5% = ₹7,000
  • Axis Premium markup: ₹2,00,000 × 2% = ₹4,000
  • Difference: ₹3,000 a year in Axis's favour, before GST on the markup

That's more than half the annual fee. If you travel abroad even once or twice a year, this is the single biggest financial difference between the two cards. Our forex markup by bank roundup shows where these sit in the market.

Lounge and travel benefits

Lounges. SBI ELITE is more generous: up to 8 domestic and 6 international visits a year, against Axis Premium's 8 domestic (2 per quarter) and 2 international via Priority Pass. But SBI's domestic visits need ₹1 lakh of spend in the previous quarter, while Axis needs only ₹50,000 over the preceding 3 months. If you spend ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 a month, you'll unlock Axis's domestic lounges but not SBI's. Our explainer on lounge spend rules covers how these conditions are counted.

Insurance. SBI ELITE includes up to 4 flight cancellation covers a year, each reimbursing up to ₹3,000 of cancellation charges, plus lost check-in baggage cover up to ₹72,000 for IndiGo flights booked on the card and lost card liability up to ₹1 lakh. For someone who books IndiGo often and occasionally cancels, that cancellation cover alone can be worth several thousand rupees a year. BestCard's data doesn't list equivalent covers on the Axis card.

Fuel. Axis Premium waives the 1% fuel surcharge, capped at ₹400 per cycle. Small, but useful if you drive.

Fees and eligibility

Both cards cost about ₹5,000 a year, and neither offers a spend-based waiver, so plan to pay the fee every year. The welcome 5,000 BluChips offset part of the first-year fee on both.

Eligibility is a real differentiator. SBI ELITE needs ₹50,000 of monthly income; Axis Premium needs ₹75,000. If you're between those levels, SBI ELITE is the realistic option.

Who should pick which

Pick IndiGo SBI Card ELITE if:

  • You fly IndiGo domestically and rarely spend in foreign currency
  • You want more international lounge visits (6 vs 2)
  • Flight cancellation and baggage cover matter to you
  • Your income is between ₹50,000 and ₹75,000 a month
  • You spend over ₹1 lakh a quarter, so SBI's domestic lounge condition isn't a problem

Pick IndiGo Axis Bank Premium if:

  • You spend abroad or on foreign websites, where the 2% markup saves real money
  • Your monthly spend is moderate, so Axis's lower lounge threshold is easier to hit
  • You'd use the fuel surcharge waiver
  • You'd value a Priority Pass membership

Verdict

On IndiGo rewards these cards are a tie, so let your other spending decide. If you spend in foreign currency, IndiGo Axis Premium is the better card: its 2% markup can save ₹3,000 or more a year. If you fly mostly domestic, want more lounge visits and value cancellation and baggage cover, or your income is below ₹75,000 a month, IndiGo SBI Card ELITE is the stronger choice.
