On a ₹1 lakh monthly salary, you can qualify for most mid-tier and many premium credit cards in India, so the question is no longer what you can get but what fits your spending. For everyday spend, HSBC Live+ is hard to beat. For travel, Axis Atlas leads. Tata Neu Infinity HDFC wins if your shopping already runs through Tata brands. Below are six cards with minimum income at or below ₹1 lakh, with the maths behind each.

What ₹1 lakh a month gets you

Minimum income requirements are a gate, not a guarantee. Our guide to credit card minimum salary requirements covers how banks judge them. At ₹1 lakh, you clear the bar for most cards in the ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 fee range but fall short of cards like HDFC Regalia Gold, which asks for ₹1.5 lakh a month.

A realistic card spend on this salary is ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 a month after rent, EMIs and savings. That means ₹3.6 lakh to ₹6 lakh a year, which is enough to waive the fee on most of the cards below.

The shortlist

HSBC Live+ (best everyday cashback)

HSBC Live+ pays 10% cashback on dining, food delivery, groceries, utilities and online shopping (excluding Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra). Each category is capped at ₹1,000 a month, and the base rate is 1%. The fee is ₹999, waived on ₹2 lakh of annual spend in our data, and the minimum income is exactly ₹1 lakh. It now runs on Visa Infinite with domestic and international lounge access through that programme, plus a 1.99% forex markup.

Axis Atlas (best for travel)

Axis Atlas earns 5% in EDGE Miles on flights and hotels booked via Travel EDGE and 2% on everything else, at 20 paise per mile. Lounge access starts at 8 domestic and 4 international visits a year and grows with spend. You also get 30,000 EDGE Miles and a tier upgrade at ₹3 lakh of annual spend. The fee is ₹5,000 with no waiver, minimum income is ₹1 lakh, and the 3.5% forex markup is a weak spot. Full details are on the Atlas card page.

Tata Neu Infinity HDFC (best for Tata shoppers)

The Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Card gives 5% back on Tata Neu and partner brand spends and on utilities, with 1.5% elsewhere. The fee is ₹1,499, waived on ₹3 lakh. It includes 4 international lounge visits a year via Priority Pass, and up to 8 domestic visits a year once you spend ₹50,000 in a quarter. Forex markup is 2%. Our Tata Neu Infinity review goes deeper.

IDFC FIRST Select (best lifetime-free)

IDFC FIRST Select charges no joining or annual fee and has 0% forex markup. Dining and travel earn 4%, but the base rate is only 0.5% at 25 paise a point. It includes ₹1 crore air accident cover and quarterly domestic and railway lounge visits, unlocked by ₹20,000 of spend in the previous month. International spends stop earning points from 26 Oct 2026.

SBI Cashback (best simple online card)

SBI Cashback pays a flat 5% on online shopping, capped at ₹2,000 a month, and 1% on other spends. The fee is ₹999, waived on ₹2 lakh. Minimum income is just ₹25,000, so approval at ₹1 lakh is usually easier. No lounge access, and a 3.5% forex markup. See the card page.

Amex Platinum Travel (best milestone rewards)

Amex Platinum Travel earns a 2% base rate at 30 paise a point, but the real value is in milestones: 7,500 bonus points at ₹1.9 lakh, 10,000 at ₹4 lakh, and 22,500 points plus a ₹10,000 Taj e-gift card at ₹7 lakh of spend in a cardmembership year. The fee is ₹5,000 with no waiver, and minimum income is ₹50,000.

Worked example: ₹40,000 a month

Take a typical split: ₹6,000 dining and food delivery, ₹8,000 groceries, ₹4,000 utilities, ₹10,000 online shopping (not Amazon or Flipkart), and ₹12,000 other spends.

HSBC Live+: 10% on ₹6,000 + ₹8,000 + ₹4,000 + ₹10,000 = ₹2,800. Every category stays under its ₹1,000 cap. Add 1% on ₹12,000 = ₹120. Total ₹2,920 a month, about ₹35,040 a year, with the fee waived.

SBI Cashback: 5% on ₹10,000 online = ₹500, plus 1% on ₹30,000 = ₹300. Total ₹800 a month, or ₹9,600 a year.

Tata Neu Infinity HDFC: if ₹10,000 of your shopping is on Tata platforms, plus ₹4,000 utilities, 5% on ₹14,000 = ₹700, and 1.5% on the remaining ₹26,000 = ₹390. Total ₹1,090 a month, about ₹13,080 a year.

On this spend pattern, HSBC Live+ is the clear winner, provided your online shopping isn't concentrated on Amazon, Flipkart or Myntra. If it is, SBI Cashback earns on those platforms where Live+ doesn't.

How to choose

  • Mostly everyday spends? HSBC Live+ first, SBI Cashback as a second card for the big marketplaces.
  • Fly four or more times a year? Axis Atlas, paired with a low-forex card for trips abroad.
  • Want zero fees? IDFC FIRST Select, accepting a lower base rate.
  • Spend ₹4 lakh to ₹7 lakh a year and like hotel vouchers? Amex Platinum Travel's milestones do the heavy lifting.

A two-card setup usually beats one card. Our guide on how to pick a second credit card explains how to pair them, and choosing a card based on monthly expenses helps you map your own split.

Frequently asked questions

Which credit card is best for a ₹1 lakh monthly salary?

It depends on how you spend. HSBC Live+ is the strongest everyday cashback pick at this income, Axis Atlas suits frequent travellers, and Tata Neu Infinity HDFC works best if you shop across Tata brands.

Can I get a premium credit card with a ₹1 lakh salary?

Yes. Several premium cards set their minimum income at or below ₹1 lakh a month, including Axis Atlas, HSBC Live+ and Amex Platinum Travel. Super-premium cards like HDFC Regalia Gold (₹1.5 lakh) and Infinia (₹5 lakh) sit above it.

How many credit cards should I hold on a ₹1 lakh salary?

Two is a practical number for most people: one card for your biggest spend category and one for everything else or for travel. More cards add fees and tracking without much extra value unless your spending is large.

Does meeting the income requirement guarantee approval?

No. Banks also look at your credit score, existing debt, employer and repayment history. Meeting the income bar only makes you eligible to apply.
