Best Credit Cards for Christmas and New Year 2026 in India
7 October 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

The best credit card for Christmas and New Year depends on where the money goes: gifts bought online, food and party orders, dining out, or a trip abroad. No single card wins all four, so the smart approach is to route each type of spend to the card that pays most for it and stop before each card's monthly cap.
Here are six cards from BestCard's data that cover the season well.
1. SBI Cashback: gifts from any website
Fee: ₹999 + GST, waived on ₹2 lakh annual spend · Online rate: 5% · Cap: ₹2,000 a month
The SBI Cashback Card pays 5% on online spends across e-commerce sites, not just a list of partners, which suits gift shopping spread across Nykaa, Croma, Tata CLiQ and smaller stores. Offline spends earn 1%.
Maths: ₹40,000 of online gifts in December × 5% = ₹2,000, exactly the monthly cap. Spend ₹50,000 and you still get ₹2,000, so move anything beyond ₹40,000 to another card. If you don't have one yet, you can apply for the SBI Cashback Card. Its 3.5% forex markup rules it out for international sites.
2. ICICI Amazon Pay: Amazon gifting with no fee
Fee: Lifetime free · Amazon rate: 5% with Prime (3% without) · Forex: 1.99%
The ICICI Amazon Pay card gives 5% back on Amazon.in for Prime members, 2% on Amazon Pay partner merchants and 1% elsewhere, credited as Amazon Pay balance. There is no fixed cap on the Amazon rate in BestCard's data.
Maths: ₹30,000 of Amazon gifts × 5% = ₹1,500 back. With no annual fee, it is a free second card for the Amazon share of your list. Our Amazon Pay ICICI review covers the exclusions.
3. Swiggy HDFC Bank card: party orders and Instamart runs
Fee: ₹500 + GST, waived on ₹2 lakh · Swiggy rate: 10% · Other online: 5% · Caps: ₹1,500 a month each
Christmas lunches and New Year's Eve gatherings mean food delivery, Instamart top-ups and Dineout bookings. The Swiggy HDFC Bank Card pays 10% on all of it.
Maths: ₹15,000 of Swiggy spends × 10% = ₹1,500, the full dining cap. A second ₹1,500 is available on other online shopping (₹30,000 at 5%). That is up to ₹3,000 in one month from a ₹500 card.

4. HSBC Live+: dining out and groceries
Fee: ₹999 + GST · Rate: 10% on dining, groceries, utilities and online shopping · Caps: ₹1,000 a month per category · Forex: 1.99%
The HSBC Live+ suits the restaurant side of the season: office party dinners, brunches and groceries for home gatherings. Each category has its own ₹1,000 cap, and its online category excludes Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra, so pair it with the cards above for those sites. It needs about ₹1 lakh a month in income. HSBC's lounge access through the Visa Infinite programme is a bonus if you're flying for the holidays.
Maths: ₹10,000 dining + ₹10,000 groceries = ₹1,000 + ₹1,000 = ₹2,000 back in December.
5. Federal Bank Scapia: the New Year trip abroad
Fee: Lifetime free · Forex markup: 0% · Rewards: about 2% in Scapia Coins, about 4% on Scapia app travel bookings
Year-end trips to Dubai, Thailand or Singapore are popular, and forex markup quietly eats into them. The Federal Bank Scapia card charges no markup.
Maths: ₹1,50,000 spent abroad on a 3.5% markup card costs ₹5,250 in markup plus 18% GST on it (₹945), so ₹6,195. On Scapia that is ₹0. It also gives unlimited domestic lounge access in months where you spend ₹5,000 or more, though no international lounges. Coins are redeemable only inside the Scapia app. For destination-specific picks see our guides for Dubai and Thailand.
6. Tata Neu Infinity HDFC: Croma, Westside and Tata stores
Fee: ₹1,499 + GST, waived on ₹3 lakh · Rate: 5% on Tata Neu and partner brands · Forex: 2%
If your gift list includes electronics from Croma, clothes from Westside or Tata CLiQ, or a BigBasket order, the Tata Neu Infinity HDFC card returns 5% as NeuCoins. It also includes 4 international Priority Pass visits a year. Details are on the card page and in our Tata Neu Infinity review.
Maths: a ₹60,000 phone from Croma × 5% = ₹3,000 in NeuCoins.

How to choose
- Count your biggest bucket. If gifts dominate, start with SBI Cashback or Amazon Pay. If you'll be hosting, the Swiggy card pays back fastest.
- Respect the caps. Most of these cards stop earning at their cap. Spreading ₹80,000 of December spend across two or three cards can double what one card returns.
- Watch the statement date. A cap is per statement month, so a December 20 statement date gives you two cap windows across the holiday weeks. Our statement cycle explainer shows how to use this.
- Don't fall for "no-cost" EMI blindly. Processing fees and GST can add cost; read no-cost EMI traps before converting big purchases.
- Pay in full in January. Revolving a festive balance at card interest rates wipes out every rupee of cashback.
Rates and caps above reflect BestCard's latest card data. Issuers tweak festive offers and exclusions often, so check the issuer's terms before you shop. Frequently asked questions
Which credit card is best for Christmas gift shopping online?
SBI Cashback is the simplest pick for gifts bought across many websites, at 5% up to ₹2,000 a month. If most gifts come from Amazon, ICICI Amazon Pay gives 5% with Prime and has no annual fee.
Which card is best for New Year party food orders?
The Swiggy HDFC Bank card gives 10% back on Swiggy, Instamart and Dineout spends, capped at ₹1,500 a month, which covers ₹15,000 of orders.
What card should I use for a New Year trip abroad?
Use a zero-forex card like Federal Bank Scapia so you don't pay the 3.5% markup most cards charge, plus 18% GST on that markup.
Should I take no-cost EMI on festive season purchases?
Only if the price is genuinely the same as paying upfront and you can clear every instalment on time. Processing fees and GST on interest components can make 'no-cost' EMI cost something.
