Tata Neu Infinity comes in two versions, one from HDFC Bank and one from SBI Card, and on the surface they look identical: ₹1,499 a year, waived at ₹3 lakh of spend, 5% NeuCoins on Tata brands and 1.5% everywhere else, all on RuPay. The differences are underneath. The HDFC card also pays 5% on utility bills and charges a lower 2% forex markup. The SBI card has a lower income bar and gives you 1,499 NeuCoins on joining. For most people who qualify, the HDFC version earns more.

Fees attract 18% GST. These figures reflect BestCard's latest card data, and both issuers revise reward terms, so verify on HDFC's, SBI Card's and Tata Neu's sites before applying.

How the rewards work

On both cards, NeuCoins are worth ₹1 each and redeem inside the Tata Neu app. The 5% rate applies to the Tata Neu app and website and partner Tata brands such as BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Tata CLiQ, Westside and Titan. Everything else earns 1.5%.

The HDFC card adds 5% on utility bill payments. That's the biggest single difference in earn, and it matters because electricity, broadband and phone bills are steady monthly spends that most cards reward poorly. Check HDFC's current terms on how bill payments need to be routed to earn the full rate.

NeuCoins do expire, so it's worth reading our NeuCoins expiry guide and planning redemptions. Our Tata Neu Infinity rewards guide covers the best ways to use them.

Rewards maths: two spend levels

₹40,000 a month

Assume ₹15,000 on Tata brands, ₹5,000 on utility bills and ₹20,000 elsewhere.

HDFC Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata brands: ₹15,000 × 5% = ₹750
  • Utilities: ₹5,000 × 5% = ₹250
  • Other: ₹20,000 × 1.5% = ₹300
  • Monthly: ₹1,300, yearly: ₹15,600

SBI Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata brands: ₹15,000 × 5% = ₹750
  • Utilities: ₹5,000 × 1.5% = ₹75
  • Other: ₹20,000 × 1.5% = ₹300
  • Monthly: ₹1,125, yearly: ₹13,500

HDFC earns ₹2,100 more a year. Both cards cross ₹4.8 lakh of annual spend, so both annual fees are waived. SBI's 1,499 welcome NeuCoins narrow the first-year gap to about ₹600.

₹75,000 a month

Assume ₹30,000 on Tata brands, ₹8,000 on utilities and ₹37,000 elsewhere.

HDFC Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata brands: ₹30,000 × 5% = ₹1,500
  • Utilities: ₹8,000 × 5% = ₹400
  • Other: ₹37,000 × 1.5% = ₹555
  • Monthly: ₹2,455, yearly: ₹29,460

SBI Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata brands: ₹30,000 × 5% = ₹1,500
  • Utilities: ₹8,000 × 1.5% = ₹120
  • Other: ₹37,000 × 1.5% = ₹555
  • Monthly: ₹2,175, yearly: ₹26,100

The gap grows to ₹3,360 a year, all of it from utility bills.

Lounge access and travel

Both cards give 4 international lounge visits a year through a Priority Pass membership, which is rare at this fee. Domestic access is conditional on both:

  • HDFC: 2 visits per calendar quarter, unlocked after ₹50,000 of spend in that quarter.
  • SBI: 2 visits per quarter, up to 8 a year, unlocked after ₹75,000 of spend in the preceding quarter. Extra Priority Pass visits beyond the free four cost $27 + GST each.

HDFC's threshold is lower, so it's the easier card to unlock lounges on. Our explainer on lounge access spend rules covers how these quarterly triggers usually count.

For overseas spending, HDFC's 2% forex markup beats SBI's 3.5%. On ₹1 lakh spent abroad, that's ₹2,000 against ₹3,500 before GST. RuPay acceptance abroad can be patchy, though, so neither card should be your only card on an international trip.

HDFC's version also carries ₹1 crore of accidental air death and disability cover, ₹15 lakh of emergency hospitalisation cover and a 1% fuel surcharge waiver capped at ₹250 per statement cycle.

Fees and eligibility

Fees and waivers are identical: ₹1,499 + GST, waived at ₹3 lakh of annual spend. The difference is who can get each card. SBI needs ₹50,000 a month of income; HDFC needs ₹1 lakh. If you're between those numbers, SBI is your only option of the two.

Who should pick which

Pick HDFC Tata Neu Infinity if:

  • You earn ₹1 lakh a month or more
  • You pay utility bills on your credit card
  • You travel abroad occasionally and want a lower forex markup
  • You want the easier ₹50,000 quarterly lounge trigger

Pick SBI Tata Neu Infinity if:

  • Your income is between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh a month
  • You don't put many bills on your card
  • You want 1,499 welcome NeuCoins to offset the first-year fee
  • You already hold other SBI cards and prefer one app

You can apply for Tata Neu Infinity through the Tata Neu app, where both versions are offered. If you'd rather go through SBI Card directly, use this SBI Card application link.

Verdict

If you qualify for both, get the HDFC Tata Neu Infinity. It earns the same 5% on Tata brands, adds 5% on utility bills, charges a lower forex markup and unlocks domestic lounges at a lower spend. The SBI Tata Neu Infinity is a good card in its own right and the right choice if your income is below ₹1 lakh a month or you don't pay bills by card.
