Best Credit Cards for Google Play and App Store Purchases 2026
25 September 2026 · BestCard Editorial Team

The best cards for Google Play and Apple App Store purchases are the ones that reward general online spending. Cards that only pay extra at a short list of shopping sites won't help. HSBC Live+ and SBI Cashback lead for most people. Axis ACE is a dependable fallback with a 2% flat rate. If you pay for subscriptions in foreign currencies, a low-forex card matters more than the cashback rate.
One caveat applies to every card here. Issuers decide which merchant categories earn rewards, and some leave out digital goods, app stores or wallet-type spends. Before you move all your app spending to a card, check its exclusion list.
Quick comparison
| Card | Fee (joining / annual) | Fee waived at | Rate that applies to app stores (if eligible) | Cap | Forex markup |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HSBC Live+ | ₹999 / ₹999 | ₹2 lakh | 10% online shopping | ₹1,000/month | 1.99% |
| SBI Cashback | ₹999 / ₹999 | ₹2 lakh | 5% online | ₹2,000/month | 3.5% |
| Axis ACE | ₹499 / ₹499 | ₹2 lakh | 2% flat | None on base rate | 3.5% |
| Jupiter Edge Visa | Nil / ₹999 | ₹1.2 lakh | ~2% value on chosen category | Check terms | 2% |
| Jupiter Edge CSB RuPay | Lifetime free | n/a | ~2% value on chosen category | Check terms | n/a |
| IDFC FIRST Millennia | Lifetime free | n/a | 0.375% base | n/a | 0% |
1. HSBC Live+: highest rate if your app spending qualifies
HSBC Live+ pays 10% cashback on online shopping (Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra excluded), capped at ₹1,000 a month. Dining, groceries and utilities get separate 10% buckets with the same cap. Since the exclusions name specific shopping sites, app-store spending may well qualify, but confirm with HSBC.
It also has a low 1.99% forex markup and lounge access on the Visa Infinite programme. The catch is a high entry bar: ₹1 lakh a month in income. Our HSBC Live+ review covers the details.
2. SBI Cashback: broad 5% on online spends
SBI Cashback pays 5% on online spends across e-commerce merchants rather than a fixed partner list, capped at ₹2,000 of cashback a month. The minimum income is just ₹25,000 a month and the ₹999 fee is waived at ₹2 lakh of annual spend, so far more people can get it than HSBC Live+.
The higher monthly cap also helps if your app purchases are part of bigger online spending. See our SBI Cashback deep dive for the excluded categories.
3. Axis ACE: the reliable 2% floor
If you'd rather not worry about how app stores are classified, Axis ACE pays 2% on most spends with no cap on that base rate. On top of that you get 5% on bills paid through Google Pay and 4% on online shopping, with a combined ₹500 monthly cap on those bonuses. It's a RuPay card, so it can also be linked to UPI, and Google Play accepts UPI payments.
The fee is ₹499, waived at ₹2 lakh a year.

4. Jupiter Edge (Visa or RuPay): pick "shopping" as your category
Both Jupiter Edge cards pay 10% in Jewels on one category you choose. With 100 Jewels worth ₹20 at the best redemption value, that's about 2% in real value, or 1.4% if you take cash. The Jupiter Edge Visa has a 2% forex markup and a ₹999 fee waived at ₹1.2 lakh. The Jupiter Edge CSB RuPay is lifetime free and works on UPI. Whether app stores count as "shopping" is up to Jupiter's category rules. Our Jupiter Edge Visa review goes deeper.
5. IDFC FIRST Millennia: for subscriptions billed in dollars
Many apps and services bill on their own websites in US dollars instead of through the Indian App Store or Play Store. On those charges, a 3.5% forex markup can cost more than any cashback earns. IDFC FIRST Millennia is lifetime free with a 0% forex markup. Its rewards are thin, but it's the cheapest way to pay a USD-billed subscription.
Worked example: ₹2,000 a month on apps and subscriptions
Say you spend ₹2,000 a month on app purchases, in-game items and subscriptions through the Indian stores (billed in rupees), and all of it qualifies as online spend:
- HSBC Live+: ₹2,000 × 10% = ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year)
- SBI Cashback: ₹2,000 × 5% = ₹100 a month (₹1,200 a year)
- Axis ACE: ₹2,000 × 2% = ₹40 a month (₹480 a year)
- Jupiter Edge: about ₹40 a month at voucher value
Now say ₹1,000 of that is a USD-billed service paid directly:
- On a 3.5% forex card, the markup is ₹35, more than ACE's ₹20 cashback on the same amount.
- On IDFC FIRST Millennia it's ₹0.
The lesson: app spending alone rarely justifies a ₹999 card. Choose a card for all your online spending, then make sure app purchases land on it. Put foreign-currency billing on a zero-forex card.
Subscriptions and auto-pay
Most app subscriptions renew automatically through a card mandate. A few practical points:
- Card tokenisation means a new or reissued card won't automatically replace the old one in your app account. Update it yourself or the renewal fails. Our tokenisation explainer covers why.
- Recurring payment rules require an e-mandate, with extra authentication above certain amounts. See our guide to credit card auto-pay and e-mandates.
- Gift cards bought through shopping sites (to top up an app store balance) are excluded from rewards on many cards. Check before you try it.
For video and music subscriptions in particular, see our guides on the best cards for Netflix, Spotify and Prime Video and gaming and OTT spending together.
How to choose
- Add up your total online spending, not just apps. That decides which card earns more.
- Check the exclusions for digital goods and app-store merchant categories.
- Watch the cap. HSBC Live+ tops out at ₹1,000 a month on online shopping, SBI Cashback at ₹2,000.
- Use a zero- or low-forex card for anything billed in foreign currency.
- Make sure you'll hit the fee waiver. Otherwise a free card may come out ahead.

Frequently asked questions
Which credit card gives the most cashback on Google Play purchases?
Cards that reward general online spending do best, such as HSBC Live+ (10% on online shopping, capped at ₹1,000 a month) and SBI Cashback (5% online, capped at ₹2,000 a month). Check whether your card treats app-store purchases as eligible online spends, since some issuers exclude digital goods.
Do App Store and Google Play purchases count as online shopping?
Usually they are processed as online, card-not-present transactions, but how they're classified depends on the merchant category code. Issuers set their own exclusion lists, so check your card's terms.
Is a forex markup charged on App Store purchases in India?
Not if the purchase is billed in rupees. Purchases on the Indian App Store and Play Store are normally priced in INR. Subscriptions billed in a foreign currency on a developer's own website can attract your card's forex markup.
What's the best free card for app purchases?
Axis ACE isn't free but has a low ₹499 fee and pays 2% on most spends. Among truly lifetime-free options, the Jupiter Edge CSB RuPay card earns about 2% in value on a chosen category such as shopping.
