Tata Neu Infinity and HDFC Millennia are both HDFC cashback cards, but they reward different shopping habits. Tata Neu Infinity wins for people who buy groceries, electronics or medicines from Tata brands and pay utility bills on the card, and it is clearly the better card for travel. Millennia wins for people whose spending runs through Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy and Zomato, and for anyone who wants a fee waiver at just ₹1 lakh a year. The question is which ecosystem you already shop in.

How the rewards actually work

Tata Neu Infinity HDFC

Tata Neu Infinity earns up to 5% as NeuCoins across the Tata Neu ecosystem, including BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Tata CLiQ, Westside and Titan. Utility bill payments also earn 5% in our data. Everything else earns 1.5%, which is a strong base for a mid-tier card. NeuCoins are worth ₹1 each but can only be spent inside the Tata Neu app.

HDFC Millennia

HDFC Millennia pays 5% CashPoints on listed online merchants such as Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy, Zomato and BookMyShow, capped at ₹1,000 a month. Groceries earn 2.5% up to ₹500 a month, utilities 1% up to ₹200, and everything else 1%. CashPoints redeem 1:1 against your statement, and you get 1,000 CashPoints on joining.

Worked example 1: ₹30,000 a month

Split: ₹5,000 BigBasket groceries, ₹3,000 at Croma and Tata 1mg, ₹6,000 on Amazon, Swiggy and Zomato, ₹3,000 utility bills, ₹13,000 other. Annual spend ₹3.6 lakh.

Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata brands: 5% × ₹8,000 = ₹400
  • Utilities: 5% × ₹3,000 = ₹150
  • Other online and other spend: 1.5% × ₹19,000 = ₹285
  • Total: ₹835 a month, ₹10,020 a year
  • ₹3.6 lakh clears the ₹3 lakh waiver

HDFC Millennia

  • Listed online merchants: 5% × ₹6,000 = ₹300
  • BigBasket as groceries: 2.5% × ₹5,000 = ₹125
  • Croma and Tata 1mg at base (not listed merchants in our data): 1% × ₹3,000 = ₹30
  • Utilities: 1% × ₹3,000 = ₹30
  • Other: 1% × ₹13,000 = ₹130
  • Total: ₹615 a month, ₹7,380 a year

Tata Neu Infinity earns about ₹2,640 more, mainly from Tata brands and bills.

Worked example 2: ₹60,000 a month

Split: ₹6,000 BigBasket groceries, ₹4,000 at Croma, ₹20,000 on Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy and Zomato, ₹5,000 utility bills, ₹25,000 other. Annual spend ₹7.2 lakh.

Tata Neu Infinity

  • Tata brands: 5% × ₹10,000 = ₹500
  • Utilities: 5% × ₹5,000 = ₹250
  • Other online: 1.5% × ₹20,000 = ₹300
  • Other: 1.5% × ₹25,000 = ₹375
  • Total: ₹1,425 a month, ₹17,100 a year

HDFC Millennia

  • Listed online merchants: 5% × ₹20,000 = ₹1,000, exactly at the cap
  • BigBasket as groceries: 2.5% × ₹6,000 = ₹150
  • Croma: 1% × ₹4,000 = ₹40
  • Utilities: 1% × ₹5,000 = ₹50
  • Other: 1% × ₹25,000 = ₹250
  • Total: ₹1,490 a month, ₹17,880 a year

Here Millennia is ahead by ₹780 a year, because ₹20,000 of e-commerce spend fills its ₹1,000 cap. Shift more spend to Tata brands or bills and Tata Neu Infinity takes the lead again.

Lounge access and travel

This is where the two cards separate. Tata Neu Infinity gives 4 international lounge visits a year through Priority Pass and 2 domestic visits a quarter, up to 8 a year, once you spend ₹50,000 in the quarter. Its 2% forex markup is much lower than Millennia's 3.5%. It also includes ₹1 crore air accident cover and ₹15 lakh emergency hospitalisation cover.

Millennia's lounge benefit is a single domestic voucher a quarter, unlocked only after ₹1 lakh of quarterly spend, and you choose it instead of a ₹1,000 gift voucher. There is no international lounge access. If you travel even a few times a year, Tata Neu Infinity is the better companion. See our best travel cards with lounge access for stronger options.

Redemption: NeuCoins vs CashPoints

Both currencies are worth ₹1, but they behave differently. Millennia's CashPoints go against your statement, so they are as good as cash. NeuCoins can only be spent in the Tata Neu app, which is fine if you already buy from BigBasket or Croma, and less useful if you don't. NeuCoins also have expiry rules, covered in our NeuCoins expiry guide.

Fees and waivers

Millennia is cheaper to hold and much easier to waive: ₹1,000 a year, free on ₹1 lakh of spend. Tata Neu Infinity costs ₹1,499 and needs ₹3 lakh, about ₹25,000 a month. Below ₹3 lakh a year, subtract ₹1,499 from Tata Neu Infinity's earnings. Eligibility also differs a lot: Millennia asks for ₹35,000 a month, Tata Neu Infinity ₹1 lakh.

Who should pick which

Choose Tata Neu Infinity if:

  • You regularly buy from BigBasket, Croma, Tata 1mg, Tata CLiQ, Westside or Titan
  • You pay a meaningful amount in utility bills on your card
  • You travel and want international lounges and a 2% forex markup
  • Your annual spend is above ₹3 lakh

Choose HDFC Millennia if:

  • You spend ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 a month on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy or Zomato
  • You want rewards that work as statement credit, not app currency
  • Your annual spend is between ₹1 lakh and ₹3 lakh
  • Your income is below ₹1 lakh a month

Verdict

For people already in the Tata ecosystem, or anyone who pays large utility bills and travels a little, Tata Neu Infinity is the stronger card, with a better base rate, lower forex markup and real lounge access. HDFC Millennia is the better pick for heavy e-commerce shoppers who don't use Tata brands, and for first-time premium-card applicants who don't meet the ₹1 lakh income bar.
